I take the opposing stand, but for an out-of-the-world reason.

if humans ever develop technology further to that stage, teh Earth would probably be destroyed even more than currently.
and I doubt we'd ever survive until the point we actually get to make robots sapien.
The wind will cease to be one day, and as I pass, what marks remain?
Graduation is not the end, we'll still be friends from here on out

I think quite the opposite.  I believe that we'll be FUBAR if we don't progress quickly to a point where we can exist more cleanly.

I'm not an advocate of "going green", I'm an advocate of finding something better, not finding an alternative to get us by.

Ic your point, but you know that progress is often at the cost of the Earth right?
It's also a question of whether we can progress enough before the Earth dies.

Actually, that does bring us back to the original question.  Isn't this sort of thing basically progress for the sake of progress with no direction?  I mean, I wouldn't put it past us, but it just seems rather out-there and with no purpose.
