To the Moon part 2 engine.

Is there any way TtM 2 will be on it's own stand alone engine? (Not RPG maker.) It seems like it would be best this way, it could have an actual options menu (not the simple F1 menu)  to change things like resolution, brightness, sound volume and things like that.

I know it's very hard to make a game engine, but it seems RPG maker XP is outdated.

Please note that I am an outside observer with next to no information on how the game actually works, so my opinion is highly biased and I don't really know what I'm talking about. Please don't take offense.

I use one of the systems the game just doesn't work with http://freebirdgames.com/forum/index.php?topic=4723.0 so maybe the game actually works great normally.

It just seems like it would be easier to put it on Steam, and you could make more changes to it than possible in RPGMXP.

Unless you are still using the RTP Graphics there shouldn't be legal issues.

But that would be a problem, the need to make tons of new graphics and the change of style coming from doing this.
Even if you are nothing more than a drop in a bucket...

It's any RTP resource, not just specific to the graphics. Just to let ya know ^^

Ya, true. But the graphics are probably the biggest factor. Kan didn't use RTP music. Maybe some of the sound effects.
Others aren't going to matter, if you want a new engine. Or is there some ressource I'm missing?

Maybe we need to get a Kickstarter together for a decent RPG Maker XP Runtime replacement engine.

Not really there are a couple of really good open source engines around. The problem is the lawsuit... -.-

You could kickstart for a bunch Tileset-designers, but the real question is, does Kan want to do that?
He is used to the RPG Maker, the nature of his games doesn't really need other graphics and at least some of the compatibility issues are solved (Steam).

The problem with any new engine, however much to be created, is all that hidden stuff we don't know until we sit with it.
I am pretty sure getting the right feel (programming) will take way more effort than what it appears for us.
When have you ever heard about IT projects being amazingly finished much before schedule?
