Learned to play Dominion in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, in a tub of nerds.

Now I love Dominion.

Played a bit more Dominion, and my mind is changing rapidly. Not that I don't like it per se, but I don't like an aspect of its structure.

When you play a board game, it's about playing with people, at the core. At least I think so. So you need to either a) compete with them or b) work with them to compete against the board. Dominion kind of does both and neither.

The competition against the players is like a high score in Mario; you can all sort of do your own thing separately, and compare the high score at the end. But it's also like you're competing together against the decks, everyone widdle-ing away at it. Because of this, people rarely affect other people directly unless you happen to have stocked an attack card to the middle pool (and even then they're not of common or popular use in most cases--or blocked with Moat cards).

So it can become kind of a dull experience. It feels like two or more people face each other at a table and talk while they each play their own game of Solitaire, where the person to succeed the fastest wins.

I dunno, it can definitely feel like that sometimes, but it can definitely at least give you something to talk about. Or you can make a middle pile of only attack and reaction cards!

There are two ways to being rich.
One is to have all you want, the other is to be satisfied with what you have.

Risk,
I like that game,
But still.
I play it on the computer, so I'm not sure if I'm put "Risk" in this forum.
Spoiler: show
I put it anyway.

Guy who makes this webcomic also does boardgames. They're pretty cool. ^^
