A friend of mine is kinda obsessed with board games, so I could try some :o

One of the lord of the ring board games (I guess there are more of them) is quite engaging, you play as team trying to move til Mordor and have to do sacrifices to get through. You will rarely reach the end.

I've also played Earth Reborn and Eclipse recently and think they are interesting. Earth Reborn is really complex though, you will need a while to know all the rules.
Even if you are nothing more than a drop in a bucket...
Every drop leaves ripples.

I don't remember which Lord of the Rings game it was either, but I have heard that one of them is outstanding. It has enough merit on it gameplay that it could not be about Lord of the Rings and still be fantastic.

I played the Penny Arcade Board Game a few months ago and it was very interesting. I can't say I've played a game like it, and everyone who I played with enjoyed it.

You know how in Magic and other trading card games you have a deck you build before the game, then fight your cards? In Penny Arcade, there's a selection of different cards in the middle, between everyone, that you purchase for your deck. When you start, you only have six card, and you use them to buy battling cards. Whenever you buy a card, you discard it; then when the last card in your deck is used, you shuffle your deck and have a chance of using the cards you bought.

So as you play, your deck gets bigger and bigger, going from six card to fifty or more, and each series of cards you buy and use are meant to buy or fight to make your deck stronger. There are Boss Cards on the table as well, and once that boss is destroyed, the game ends and the worth of cards is totaled to see who the winner is.

The core concept sounds a bit like Dominion :P

Oooh, I think you're right! I forgot you had mentioned Dominion briefly, and it does seem to be the same. Looking more into it, I believe they're under the category of Deck Building games.

Yup, pretty much. Though did you say Penny Arcade had a board, too?

Speaking of Dominion, I'm probably going to buy one of the expansion packs online today! :D

Cool! :D I've played the basic Dominion and Dominion: Intrigue (the only two stand-alone ones), and they're both pretty awesome, so knock yourself out!

I am going to sound like a weird nerd, but my two favourite board games have always been Life and Monopoly. No idea why. I just always found them fun. Have no clue what what says about me as a person though. xD

I believe Scrabble counts. =D

Also, I love playing Monopoly among my friends. I enjoy it when I mischievously place the "Go to Jail" card on top while the other good cards are below. *evil grin*

I do enjoy Monopoly, but I've found that whoever is the banker cannot possibly win without the accusations of cheating. Oh well. :( I'm more of a video game guy anyway.

Man, I don't care for those board games. XD Like, Life and Monopoly are the tourist traps of board games. They're the places you visit on your way through the area that get a lot of hype but don't actually represent the good stuff.

It's like when you ask a person what books they like and their answer is a book they had to read in school, you know they haven't read anything. Monopoly is that "mandatory" game that everyone is introduced to but doesn't represent how good board games can actually get. Monopoly's the game you enjoy when you've never grabbed that same group of friends played other board games. :P But anything can be fun with the right people. :)
