Dear Esther
« on: March 17, 2012, 01:32:17 AM »
I just wanted to share this game with everyone!  I just finished playing it today.  I decided to post it here since the way the game is structured reminded me a lot of To The Moon (aka, it uses the game more as a means to convey a story rather than actual game play).  The game itself is a bit weird, but the game world is incredibly beautiful and it is a fairly enjoyable experience!  I've posted a link to it below.

Woah, I just came on for the sole purpose of reviving this thread, and Andri already has. XD

I just played this game, and holy crap.... it's good!  :o Visually, it's probably one of, if not the most beautiful game I've ever played.

As a game, it's great in that it can be whatever the player wants it to be. Want an adventure game? Yep. Romance? Sure thing. Horror? You betcha. Seriously, there was one point where I was so scared I physically became sick. No joke.

I'll have to play it a few more times to fully understand it, but I'm quite sure that it's mostly open for interpretation. I'd say more but I don't want to risk spoilers. Anyway, I just can't recommend this game enough. I'm still in shock. :o

Hey Tumbles this is a little spoiler if your curious about what you might find in the game.

Do you know that you are not alone in the island? There are ghosts that you can find in your playthrough. They have screenshot of the ghosts in other forums and youtube

Hehe, yeah, I spotted that. :)

I'm not certain whether that person really exists though, or if it's just in his head.

I didn't realize there was a new version of this game, the landscapes are certainly a lot more detailed which helps with the atmosphere of the game.

Was always thinking of getting this game, but was never sure whether or not I should... Maybe I'll get the game on Steam when it goes on sale one day.

Is there a demo, or do you have to buy all or nothing?

I think you can still get the mod so that's sort of like a demo.
Old River was as dead as a doornail, this must be distinctly understood or nothing wonderful can come of the story I am about to relate.
