RPGMaker VX ACE - Interesting for commercial games?
« on: February 23, 2012, 04:20:00 AM »
Looks like there the new RPGMaker is getting an english version and - hooray - it has support for widescreen monitors!

I couldn't find out if it could be used as an engine for commercial games, as it is an update to VX, not XP. Does anyone know more?

I'm 96.75% certain that it can be used for commercial games. :) I remember reading about the terms somewhere a couple of weeks.

A definite step up from RMVX. The RMXP->RMVX transition sucked. Who thought it would be a good idea to lop off features anyway?

Tsk tsk, Windows Vista.

Is the mapping system as versatile as XP again?

No. It's still blocky as hell. But there are certain additions like a different tileset system.

Doesn't look too spectacular. They added some of the bits that other programmers have already scripted (caterpillar, TP, etc.). That's cool, but there are already scripts for them. What I like best is the .OGG video player command.

Would've been nice if this was just some sort of paid update to VX. But it being another separate version makes me facepalm. I'd rage if it has the same price tag as XP and VX lol

The one thing I'm actually looking forward to is the sprite maker thingy...

EDIT - Looks like the video on their main page says the game boasts a 13,440 yen price tag or something...

Dang. And here I was hoping for more. D: I'll stick to RMXP.
