To The Moon - Part 1

I would feel pretty bad if someone put up 100% of the content of my visual novel on another site.

Well, it's not too different from channels that give walkthroughs of the game, except that there's no voicing over.

Didn't Reives link to that channel/user once? I think I remember him not having a problem with it. IF it was the link.

It would have been nice if the user would have recorded the game in the right aspect ratio.

Hm, there is still a big difference between watching and playing the VN, and just simply watching the VN. The latter makes you miss a lot of experience playing the game and it is not a feasible basis for making game reviews.

I think Reives appreciates this. After all, it helps To The Moon to reach a larger audience. And it's not like FancyjakeOnline tells the watchers not to buy the game:

Buy the game or try a 1 hour demo:

I believe this guy who is behind that acc. posted at least one request I am aware of.

I think that overall it will help TtM to become more popular, so it's no problem.

It is and interesting point though, with a game like this that is not as reliant upon its gameplay element, it becomes more of a piracy issue. I would agree that there is much more to gain from playing it than watching it, but it is unlikely that someone would watch it and then go out and buy the game.

@speedofthepuma: Not really. That's what I did, and I know countless others who also bought the game after watching a playthrough of it.

Fair enough, I would have thought it would be more akin to the problems that film and TV have. Difficult to tell how the average consumer on the net would react, we are a rather specific group of people who were affected enough by the game to join the forum.

I see how that'd be the case mostly with games and movies, but, even though TtM shares a lot more with those media than other games, it's demographic is gamers. I think that's key. Gamers are, almost by definition, people who want to engage their product in a hands-on manner--that is, they want to "play" the game.

I think that's why it isn't as big of an issue. Gamers like to own and play themselves--even if they know the gameplay elements are sparse or non-existent--not watch someone else. If they were content with watching, they wouldn't be in the gamer demographic.

Also if you you've seen something and it was great there is a certain urge to want to have this ^^
(for some people even, if they don't want to watch it again)
Reives could also enhance that effect by creating a buyable hardcopy with nice boxart (and maybe some other extra stuff like a poster or whatever)

^The game also feels really oldie so good old Cartbox release would be really really cool.
