Recommend some Television!
« on: October 14, 2011, 04:40:33 PM »
So, I always like to have a TV series to watch when I'm bored, but the new series I wanted to watch, Misfits, is apparently really cussy... and filled with Sex... and gore... and drugs... and pretty much everything, so I'm not so sure I want to watch that anymore.

Now I'm turning to you guys! Any good TV shows I should watch? Or just talk about TV shows that you like that somebody else on here who isn't me might like. Just talk about TV shows!

To give you an idea of what I like, here's pretty much what I've watched so far:

-Code Lyoko (I was a fan of it when I was a kid, and I'm still a fan of it)
-Mythbusters (Explosions are cool, but needless explosions and no plot (in a show that should have a plot) are not cool.
-Doctor Who
-Being Human (both versions)
-Jekyll
-All of Joss Whedon's stuff. That means Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly/Serenity, Dollhouse, and, of course, Dr. Horrible
-My Little Pony :P
-Person of Interest (JJ Abrams and Jonathan Nolan are both pretty awesome from what I've heard. This show has potential right now, though it's starting a bit slow).

Aaaaaaaaand yeah, I think those are the only ones I've actually seriously watched (I don't really know why I put Mythbusters up there cuz it's nothing like the rest, but whatever). I like things that are serial rather than episodic, but if it's good enough I guess episodic is okay?

EDIT: Oh, also, I'm kind of off my anime kick, so please don't recommend anime. There's a different thread for that.

I heard from my friend that it's all eye-candy and very little plot. Anybody seen an episode?

I saw the first episode and it seemed okay. Not comparable to Firefly or MLP.

OH! And totally check out Castle! Nathan Fillion stars in it, and it is the ONLY crime TV show I have ever liked.

Hey, Castle sounds kind of interesting from what I just read on wiki. And Fillion is pretty great. Is the emphasis more on the 'crime' or the 'drama'? One of the problems I have with Person of Interest is it's too crime-y, and uses too many of the cliches.

EDIT: I'm looking through some of the stuff Eliza Dushku did (cuz I loved her in Angel/Buffy/Dollhouse), and I found a show called 'Tru Calling' that sounds like it might be interesting. I wonder why I didn't think to look through her repertoire before?

It's really focused on the drama part. The crime is only second. It has great jokes, great story, and it's been up for 3 seasons now. ;D

I like Fringe. You have to watch the whole thing in order to be able to follow/understand the whole plot, though.

Btw, I'd recommend Twin Peaks. It's such a good series, especially because it's sort of weird and unique. It's mixture of several genres and it's also a bit crazy... if you're familiar with David Lynch you know what I'm talking about.

For everyone I'd like to recomend Black Books which is a british sitcom about Irish drunkie bookseller who hates selling books, his companion Manny who is a kind of stranger with some Mafia characterisics (but not bravery) and their friend Fran which is problematic girl inside out. For everyone who loves us Booksellers. ^^

Just finished Tru Calling; it was as awesome as I'd expect from a show with Eliza Dushku in it :P But it was cut off WAY too early! That's the third show now I've watched that has been ruthlessly canceled by the evil that is FOX! -shakes fist-

Haha, which one? XD I have seen some episodes, but I'm not sure if I'm a big super hero person. Castle is awesome, though. Nathan Fillion is the greatest person ever.

I see we have a lot of TV show loving in common (Doctor Who, Firefly, MLP, Mythbusters).

Let me tell you, you have to watch "Life on Mars" and "Ashes to ashes", you will love it.

I could tell you what it's about, but it will be easier for you to check on Wikipedia.
Life on Mars is two seasons and stars The Master from Doctor Who's 10th doctor.
Ashes to ashes is the sequel and is three seasons, and I loved it even more than the first series.

It's pretty trippy but, unlike Lost, you get all the anwsers to all your questions at the end.

Please, PLEASE, don't even consider that the US version of Life on Mars exists, watch the original british, it's not even comparable. Anyway, Ashes to ashes don't have a US version.

Well, yeah.
The new MLP episode just finished loading, gonna watch that now.
