Non-Native Speakers of English Wanted
« on: October 05, 2010, 07:18:10 PM »
Hi.

I need some people that I could interview for a school project. They have to speak English, but not as a native speaker (those're the rules). Interviews would probably be over IM, and times are flexible (though the sooner the better; I have to write a paper based on the results).

If anyone is interested in volunteering or has any questions... yeah.

That would be so great. I really appreciate it. We can talk more over IM to work out details one-on-one.

P.S. Anyone else? The more the merrier, probably.

(Wow, lookit all the people! Oh, the wonders of the internet.)

Thank you, everyone, for replying. I was just thinking about it, and I realise that when it comes to plausibility I should probably factor in time zone differences. I'm in GMT -6:00. If I'm not mistaken, these are everyone else's:

Argentina is in GMT -3:00
Phillipines is in GMT +9:00
Deutschland ist in GMT +1:00 (sorry, couldn't resist)
Egypt is in GMT +2:00
Hungary is also in GMT +1:00

Unfortunately this cuts down on the plausibility on some of them (e.g. I'm writing this at 15:00 P.M. on 10/07, which in the Philippines would be 5:00 A.M. 10/08). That's just the most extreme example, though (didn't mean to single you out there, Koemushi!)

Another constraint is that I am a student and a worker. So it would probably be what is (for me) a Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday evening.

Sorry. I probably should've stated this kind of thing earlier. But anyways, understanding that, is there anyone who would like to withdraw their nomination?

P.S. For reference, you can find a map of the time zones here.

I would like to thank everyone who participated. I just got my report back today and I got an 82%. The final verdict that my teacher wrote at the bottom of the paper was this:

"This is an interesting and diverse choice of subjects. The underlying message of the paper, however, is lost in the organization. The writing could really be tightened up and made clearer."

d'oh!

Entirely through my own devices, I made you guys look bad. Oh well, you're still "interesting and diverse", right?

Oh, and she thinks that I use too many parentheses! (How dare she say that!)

So, yeah. Good work, everyone. A B- ain't bad.

Our History class (taught by our English teacher :P) apparently uses too many parentheses too much, too. (But parentheses are so fun! D:)

I feel you, Cyril. I use the Em Dash too much. I often use them in place of parentheses. Interjecting is more my style than side thoughts.  :-[
