Age Discrimination
« on: April 04, 2010, 11:19:20 AM »
Is it really reasonable to be accepted and to be followed by a particular society? Or is this another human right nail down?

Personally though, the elderly may be just as capable as the young. Since age is not necessarily an indication of inferior ability or potential, treating a person less favorably purely on the basis of their age is just as unreasonable and unfair as doing so on the basis of his race or religion. It would also be inconsistent with the principles of equal treatment and non-discrimination, which are at the heart of the notion of individual rights.
If a particular elderly worker truly has, say, less concentration or manual strength than a younger worker, and this objectively and reasonably makes him less qualified for the particular job, then employers can still make their decisions based on his relative lack of suitability for the job not on his age. Age by itself should not be a determinant.

Just like the average elderly person will have a harder time using an iphone then a 25 year old, the AVERAGE elderly person will have a harder time driving also.

The average child can't lift 150 lbs, the average 25 year old can. It's not a matter of those select few who can, it's a matter of the majority that can't.  These rules are set into place for a reason.

If I was an employer looking for a potential cashier and I had two applicants a 25 year old and 80 year old, I'm 95% sure I'd pick the 25 year old. I want my moneys worth, it's not discrimination. The strong survive. If the world were to hire anyone or let anyone do anything no matter what age things wouldn't be going well on planet Earth.

Like it or not we're not all built equally. Believe it or not theres people that can't run Marathons. Believe it or not theres people who can't fly a plane.

If you were to say thats discrimination you might as well say the law forbidding anyone with less then 20/20 correctable vision from piloting a commercial aircraft should be abolished. Think about it.
