Try something different every day.
« on: December 12, 2009, 02:32:31 AM »
Sometimes, we get so caught up in staying safe and do the repetitive tasks we do every day, that we never push ourselves to try something new and make discoveries. But when that happens, we miss out on a lot things that we would've been glad to find.

This thread is a tracker to give yourselves incentives to try something new every day. It doesn't even have to be anything major (though you get extra brownie points for those!) - perhaps you could take that short cut to school that you've always wanted to try but never dared to, or perhaps you could try eating pizza with jam (okay, maybe this was a bad example). Do stay safe though, of course!

Post what you did different when you do, and perhaps include the results (it doesn't always have to be a pleasant one)!

Live a life, not a routine. :gothat!: Cheers.

Brownies = the only long-lasting and completely satisfying reward in a (wo)man's life.

Yeah, you should always be open to try new things, that makes you happier and more creative. I sure should try new things more often!
One of the things I tried is riding with a bike to places that are not exactly in the neighbourhood. It was alway fun, sometimes exciting and rarely frustrating, plus it is environment frienly and makes you more independent. And the existence and beaty of nature is much more realizable.

Funny, I thought my idea was plain stupid, but if someone else thinks the same way... O.o
I actually have a kind of to-do list in my head which is about the not too normal things I want to do in my life.
Though they aren't always easy to realize. But I'll have my try for sure.

Hmm... when I got home from my boyfriend's, today I got on the tram a stop earlier, where I never had got on before. Does that count? ^^

Sure, every new experience gives you some Brownie points. :)

Maybe I will do go out for a nighty walk next weekend. Just to know how it is. I did this many times, of course, but always combined with some goal and now the journey is the reward.

I found a pleasant, relaxing song on youtube, and I decided to just listen to it with my eyes closed and relax.  I then did the same with the entire rest of the album it came from.  They were all acoustic guitar versions of a soundtrack I already liked, so every piece was familiar even though I'd never heard it before, and it was all... relaxing.  I just sat there with my eyes closed, using a warm blanket I had nearby as an impromptu pillow, listening to each one.  I wasn't able to shut down my mind completely--I'll admit to planning out this post while doing it--but it's probably the closest I've come in ages; for a large portion of the time I managed to occupy my entire brain with nothing but each new note.

I'm used to music just being on in the background while I do other things, only really paying attention to it with more than 20% of my brain when it reaches an "interesting" part like the crescendo it's been building up to for the last minute and a half or something.  I don't remember the last time I really, really just listened to a song.  But that was definitely half an hour well spent, and I'm going to find time to do it again sometime soon.

@Brickman: Yes, music is much more powerful and inspiring if you focus on it and nothing else. I know exactly what you mean and know there is a huge difference to listen to background music, often barely aware of it.

You are so right Revies,
but it feel difficult to do so, because you often choose the easiest path (= the known path) without even think about doing something else or, because you are too lazy/shy/unconfident.

Btw: To-Do Lists really can help some persons xD
It always feel good to strike a thing on those lists.

It is always easier to try something new or unknow if there is someone doing it with you.
At least this is my experience.

Yeah, that's very true.

Mm, I went below a bridge that I cross often a while back and discovered a nice, semi-secluded place to sit (you can see people crossing the bridge but it's hard for them to notice you) beside a tree with your feet hanging above the river.
