She's testing the palettes, Lance.

Hm, standing next to the green haired sprite, it seems a bit out of place. Might be due to the cloths too.

Here's a Naramura sprite of similar colours:

Although I think he darkened the hair on the sprite.

Now that I'm fully awake, I can actually articulate my point XD

If you want this character to fit in with RTP and be pleasing to the eye, you need to desaturate the teal in the icy white and use pure white sparingly. I've used one of Sithjester's sprites to illustrate an example - the original sprite, on the left, has white/silver hair:

Now, it may look like the sprite on the right is too dark/colorful to fit your character art, but I can promise you that it's not. When you compare it to the RTP and put it in an RTP setting, it won't stand out but it will look like your character art. You will need to apply the same principle to her white/black outfit.

What's important to keep in mind is that the colors you use in sprites don't have to be the same colors you use in character art. They should be similar values when compared to other sprites, but they should still be a part of the same/similar palette.

If you're in love with the palette you chose for the character, however, you will need to tweak the tilesets in order for the character to fit.

I have trouble telling the difference in the triplet comparison earlier. :(

That's very clear! I wonder how it'll look on the game backgrounds.

Eh. Newer image. I edited the sprite a bit more.

The sprites are as follows:
1) Old sprite, the first one I posted. 2) First time I edited it. 3) Second time I edited it.

Hopefully looks better (less blinding and fits more into the RTP)? @_@; *crosses fingers*

I wonder if it still looks too pale against the snowy background..

It's a lot better, especially if you compare it to the first one.

It's particularly evident in the snow map, but it doesn't look too bad in the forest map either. Personally, I'd darken it a little more - but that's personal preference speaking. It looks like the character in the portrait.

You'll probably want to fix up the clothing a bit too, and it should fit in RTP pretty nicely. :)

Moving this to the Game Design board. o_o

This is the redone Hakua sprite that I put off for so long:
Spoiler: show

She made an appearance in one of the screenshots I posted recently:

Her white clothes still bother me a lot. But at least her hair is more pleasant to look at. :X

I.. uh.. barely touched the other sprites that I've shown here (yes, that still means I still only have 1/4 of a charset for one of them).. BUT. I did start on another sprite. Rayen's to be particular.

Here's what I have so far:

And here's my friend's old drawing of her:

Nice Rayen! Everything looks great, just one question. What is the basic idea of your game? ??? I'm really interested in it!

Ooh, that's neat! I think the top of the hair should be a bit more darker to blend, though - I thought it was a hat at first glance (in the front frame). You're definitely improving though, and it looks great. c:

@ Raxus: We're still trying to work out the story, sadly, so I can say much about it right now. ._o;
@ Reives: For which sprite do you mean? Rayen's or Hakua's?

@Rayen, No story, eh? What I always do to when I'm thinking of a story is to take so many elements from other games/movies/books and so forth, that it becomes a new piece in itself! You should try that! If not, maybe I could help...or not... Whatever yah want!
