Original Character Designing
« on: May 21, 2009, 02:58:11 AM »
(I question whether this is in the right area..)

I'm thinking of teaming up with a friend of mine to create a game, and currently we're in the character designing stage. Just though I post a few of the 4 characters I'm working on:

Spoiler: Rayen: Concept • show

Spoiler: Rayen: Portrait Sketch • show

Spoiler: Rayen: "Finished" (?) Full Body Art • show
Not my drawing. It's my friend's drawing. Thought I'd post it, anyway.

(She inherited "my" name due to lack of something better)

I'm still working on her color palette.. I'm not sure if the white areas should have color or not, it looks fine as it is to me. But at the same time, it looks plain. Wondering if should try adding some sort of adornments or patterns to her skirt and cape..-piece.. thing (I'm not sure -what- I should call that part connected to the cape). <_< Also considering whether or not to change the color of her belt and removing that gold-thingy I spontaneously put underneath the silver belt buckle.

----

Spoiler: Koda: Lineart • show

Spoiler: Koda: Colored • show

C&C much appreciated~!

Very nice, the outfit's design is pretty delicate. The design overall is nifty and well done, the colour scheme too. The only thing I'd point out is that the limbs seem to be a bit too straight - it should look more natural if you curve things a bit to resemble muscle structures, etc.  And ooh, good to hear that you are developing a game now! Good luck with it, and be sure to tell us how things go once it takes off.

Yeah, the limbs are kinda straight, I pretty much use PS's Pen tool to make a path. I tried to make it curved, but that didn't work out so well. :-\

As for the game, we're trying to come up with a story at the same time. We've pretty much got an ending. That's about it. I guess it's easier to work backwards sometimes. o_oa

On another note, I just made a portrait sketch a while ago:

Yeah, I don't like PS Pen tool either. I remember Paintshop Pro's pen tool was pretty easy to use back when I was using that.

That new pic looks a lot more curvey! You seem to be improving quite a bit lately, great stuff. And yeah, planning the ending first is a good approach sometimes. Imagining the ending in your head also helps to motivate. :P

Thanks, you two. Though, to be honest, my friend is a better artist than me so she'll probably be doing most - if not all (I'm not quite sure) - of the character art for the game.

This is her drawing of my character:

Very nice, the hair looks soft and bouncy too. The head seems to be a bit long in comparison to the body though. :~

After, like, 4 days of artist's block on a design for a male character.. I finally came up with this:

Spoiler: show

Just trying to figure out his colors, now. x_o

The girl in color's legs look kinda rubbery to me, like they shouldn't really support her.

Rayen, all your male characters practically make me salivate. They're pretty darn gorgeous (and well done. :) )

Uber pwns all my drawings.

'Nuff said

@Abi - I think that's because she's wearing rubber-like stuff on her legs? Not sure

Yeah, I know. I told my friend about the legs she drew, but she claimed she saw nothing wrong with them and said that it's possible for girls to have their legs like that. ..Which didn't convince me at all since I tried putting my legs like that. It ended up to be an awkward position. o_o;

Ahaha. Thanks. ;P My friend doesn't seem to approve of his clothing, though. She has a distate for "altered street clothing" sadly. </3 She's most likely going to end up changing his clothes a bit, for the game.

@Abi - I think that's because she's wearing rubber-like stuff on her legs? Not sure
The girl's wearing boots. Its actual material is questionable to me, actually. But I can say for sure they're not made of rubber.
