Article 13

Remember SOPA and PIPA? And CISPA? They were all struck down because of how ridiculously flawed they were (and they would have destroyed the openness of the Internet)...

Well, Article 13 is pretty much the same; only difference is this one passed.

Time to load up the good old VPNs I guess...?

What about this petition? https://www.change.org/p/european-parliament-stop-the-censorship-machinery-save-the-internet

It seemed like it was going somewhere, but now that the article passed... is it even valid?

Quite a few of the politicians were just like "uh...we don't care" or "all those votes were bots" and just passed the laws anyway.
It's infuriating.

Geez, simply dismissing the petition like that is saying that every petition on that site is practically invalid, because all of them could've used bots.

Also, now that the article passed, the next step would be for every UE country to implement it individually. Does this mean that countries have the choice to refuse it?

There are still some votes were it theorethically (,but unlikely) could be refused:

If it passes there, the countries can't just outright refuse it, they could just try to make some adjustments to the implementation.

End of Mai there is a vote for EU parlament, so if you are old enough to vote that would be an option to express your dissatisfaction. Enough changing votes there could make them realize it was a mistake.
