[RMXP] Tip: Test games at turbo speed
« on: September 10, 2011, 11:11:15 PM »
This is something really simple but very helpful. If you want to make the tediously repetitive testing of your game go faster, you can speed up the entire game with the script call:

Graphics.frame_rate=160
Edit: As Sark pointed out, the max value that the game will run at is 120.

Frame rate at normal speed should be 40, so that's supposed to be 4 times faster (it likely won't achieve that exactly due to pc constraints, but will still make things quite a lot faster).

So to make it even more convenient, you could make a common event like this:

This will make it so that when Switch 1 is on, you can turn on the speedy mode by pressing 'W', and switch it off by pressing 'Q' for the parts that you need to tread carefully. Or you can use whichever other input keys you prefer, of course.

Hope that helps!

I´m using cheat engine www.cheatengine.org. After Instal program select proces and click to Enable Speedhack and now choose speed (0-20). Strange is that program doesn´t work at some maps in Quintessence, but you can use this cheat in another engines and games.

I've been using this the reverse way for years to create slow motion effects. It won't actually be slow motion, but it feels like it as everything renders a lot slower when you reduce the frame rate.

Also note that the frame rate cannot exceed 120. If you set it to 160, it will automatically adjust itself to 120. It can also not go below 10. This doesn't mean the framerate can't go below 10, you just can't set the max frame rate to be below 10.

PS: Your original post first (outside the image) links to Graphics.frame_update. No such thing exists. The image shows the correct variable, though, namely "frame_rate".
