Ugh, internet access is worse up here than I anticipated. Basically I have NO access while I'm at the cabins, so I have to go into town and hang out at the coffee shop to go online. Onbly have a few minutes right now, so I MIGHT have a couple hours a week, if I'm lucky. Ah well, it's nice to get a break from technology sometimes, but I will miss you guys!
This might hurt, it's not safe / But I know that I've gotta make a change / I don't care if I break,
At least I'll be feeling something

Wireless at the coffee shop? That's pretty nifty. Nice to see ya on Abi. A break from the comp is pretty refreshing, enjoy it while it lasts.

:'( Abi is leaving us. NUUUUU, makes me cry.

look at the sad face

 :'(

I am so sad that I am tempted to shamelessly advertise my site in this thread, but I will respect Abi's thread, even if her leaving makes me sad. Maybe she'll need a hat wherever she's going >_>

Well, back from Vaca, decided to indulge myself and get caught up as best I could before I start packing in earnest. I'll be aroundish for a little while now, until I get mired in schoolwork. :o

Oh whoa, hey, welcome back Abi! I thought you were just poking out from some coffee shop's wireless internet! So how was it, and which books did ya read?

Mere Christianity - C.S. Lewis
Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen
Some short poorly-written pamphlety thing about an Israeli spy
The Life of the Mind - Clifford Williams (I think?)
The African Queen - C.S. Forrester
Jane Eyre - Charlotte (or Emily?) Bronte

I highly recommend Mere Christianity, especially to Christians. C.S. Lewis has some very insightful and amusing examples, and is over all a pretty interesting read. Obviously, I think Christians would be more likely to enjoy it, but I think it would be at least an interesting browse to many others.

Sense and Sensibility was far too long. I think the recent movie with Kate Winslet was far more satisfying and worthwhile.

The Israeli spy was interesting and blessedly short, but I couldn't recommend it. (Obviously I didn't give anyone much to go on in finding it anyway...)

The Life of the Mind... it's appeal would be to a pretty narrow audience, and I didn't particularly enjoy it or find it terribly insightful.

The African Queen was enjoyable, and sort of an interesting treatment of two extreme characters in an extreme condition. Again, I recommend the movie more than the book, although I think they're different enough they would probably each appeal to an entirely different audience. If you're into a slightly cheesy real-life story with a fairy-tale structure, you'll like the movie. If you're into oddly constructed stories with unique characters, written by an author who has a sadistic inclination for making his characters suffer, well the book would be more up your alley. (I'm fairly certain I haven't spoiled anything, but forgive me if I have.)

Jane Eyre is probably my favorite book now. If you like Jane Austen, and can stomach a story considerably less fluffy and light (not to disparage Austen's novels, but having read Sense and Sensibility and Jane Eyre in the span of a couple weeks, there is a marked contrast) I would give this a try. It's most likely the most interesting and beautiful romance I've read in my life, and on the whole it's been a long time since I enjoyed a book so thoroughly.

I probably have some book purists who would have me hanged for suggesting that movies are ever better than books. Well, sometimes they are. ;)
