Title: Oh my god, I know what A Bird Story is! SPOILER?! MAYBE?!
Post by: Abrom on August 06, 2015, 09:41:35 AM
Ok, I think I've got the most solid theory yet. Kan's been giving out hints in these forums and on facebook: He asked if anyone saw A Bird Story for anything other than a boy taking care of a bird, he said that the bird wasn't a "he", he said that no one's seemed to figure out what it's really about and the connection, he said that based on our perspective that Finding Paradise should have been released before A Bird Story, and he said that there's no overlapping scenes. NOW, I put that all together, and what it all means is that A Bird Story was a crazy metaphor for what we'll see in Finding Paradise. That forest with the moving trees that the boy walks through to get to school and back home = a metaphor for a busy city. The bird that he finds along the way that's being chased by a predator = a real girl that he met, perhaps being bullied. So you see, there's not going to be any overlapping scenes, because in Finding Paradise, we're going to see what REALLY happened in A Bird Story. Kan said that, in his mind, he had to release A Bird Story first, and that's because the metaphor known as A Bird Story would hold no mystery to it if we already saw Finding Paradise. Now, with that in mind, I'm not very good at deciphering metaphors, so if you guys could translate the rest of A Bird Story, I'd like to hear it :)

Taking a shot in the dark here - So, the boy meets this girl, who's perhaps sickly or injured. They make a connection before learning that she's moving. He doesn't want her to go, and she probably doesn't want to go either, so they hide out together. However, it eventually becomes apparent that she has to go; again, perhaps she needs medical treatment, which may be the reason for the move in the first place. Realizing that it's for the best, the boy allows her to move away (via a plane).

Very interesting theory.

That's a very good theory :) it'd make sense for Kan to make something like that. If not, I'd still love to see this story in action.

Here's what Kan has revealed that is not in the game:
1. The boy is the patient
2. The bird is not male (assuming it's female)

Since he's stated both of these, I'm assuming they're both relevant to Finding Paradise in some way. I'd say that your theory seems to hold quite a bit of water.

The bird's gender being mentioned is incredibly important, as it seems unlikely that he's mention such a small thing if it wasn't important.

If we lack info on the plot of FP, it's kind of understandable that no-one has made the connection yet.
I seriously hope that FP will not be basically the same story as ABS, only in "non-symbolic" form.
But from how I understand Kan as a person (which means tons of guesswork), he would not tell a story twice, unless there are a few serious changes.

Well, for what it's worth, I think that it would only cover the childhood stage of the patient, and likely not even all of it, so there's still a LOT of story that's going to be fresh. Not to mention that the story will probably appear much different than in A Bird Story, and no one seems to know what A Bird Story is actually about yet. Therefore, in a sense, I guess we'll be getting the same story twice, but it'll be told much differently and give insight to what we've already seen; it'll be necessary to see through the mystery of A Bird Story.

Well yeah, he revealed those two, and also all the other things I mentioned :/ If you can't find them in Reives post history, look back in freebirdgames' facebook timeline.

Coming from a guy with Raven in his name, we should accept this statement as fact.

You know guys, Kan actually did reveal in A Bird Story that he was going to be the next patient - That final scene, where it shows the timeline, that also says "Finding Paradise." If you read the game's description before watching/playing it (which I didn't at the time; stupid me), Kan revealed that he was the next patient in the To The Moon universe. So, if you include the game's description as also being part of the game, then that was all already revealed.

Depends on what is meant by "go poof", I guess. I was well aware that he was going to be the next patient. I was thinking there might be something more in this quote.

You're right; maybe he becomes a wizard.

There are no birds in Finding Paradise.

(...Er, except little npc birds in the background as were in TtM.)
My theory's looking pretty good :)

Meh, I'm just wondering what a predicament it would be...  When a story writer (e.g. Reives) already has the whole plot of an anticipated project outlined beforehand - from start to finish - and he comes across some fan theory/prediction which more or less matches his story, would he modify it?

I posted this on Freebirdgames facebook, and they responded (I'm Eric Jousma btw)

Freebird Games: Interesting, but that's not it -- I'd say just don't worry about A Bird Story's tie-in with FP for now; it's fairly indirect.
