Title: An annual community game award thing is happening.
Post by: Reives on February 21, 2009, 01:38:57 AM
The nomination period for a certain (predominantly) RM game award started a few days ago; I was a bit hesitant to post this here this year, but finally figured that the pros probably outweighs the cons.

It's called "Misaos", hosted by RM Network (a pretty cool community) - pretty much the "largest" (relatively) RM annual award around. Last year Quintessence did unexpectedly well (perhaps a bit too well, but that's another story). This year, the officially informed participant communities (RMN, GamingW etc.) are all pretty much RM2k3 based. I don't expect anything, but figured that the potential publicity generated from the event could bring in some fellow members (I remember some of ya around here discovered the project from last year's Misaos).

The nomination and voting are free for all, you just need to register on that forum (they are expecting people to).

However, please nominate/vote responsibly if you will, and please do not attempt to cheat in any way! Two nominations are required for a title to be moved up to the voting round that starts after the 26th or so. The best case scenarios are if you've played the games mentioned on the list, or the ones that make common appearances in a category. But to be honest, barely anyone nominating/voting there has played every game eligable. What I do sometimes is that I just search for a certain game and perhaps try to find videos of it and whatnot for references in the missing cases (it's a bit tricky here overall since most RM2k3 users haven't played many RMXP games, and many RMXP users haven't played many RM2k3 games. A lot more has played The Mirror Lied though since it's a short game). Personally, I think Quintessence may have a shot at being nominated for cinematics and music, and perhaps direction (The Mirror Lied's already nominated for atmosphere, which is kind of shooting myself in the foot since it potentially may split the votes between two games from the same maker with the same techniques :p ).

But anyhow, participate responsibly and have fun. Whether Quintessence gets any this year or not, cheers and thanks for your time, everyone~

Heheh sure. Thanks guys. And yeah, for some sections you need to include the specific subject.

I was finally able to register this year. I'm not sure, but either my entire IP range (which includes all of cedar city and salt lake) was banned, or my service provider (quest) was banned. I contacted the admin, and he corrected it, so I nominated QTBV for all the categories I felt it deserved, such as best music.

If only this was being held a month or two later, I'd have a demo of Darkness Rebirth up x_x

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about that last year. Glad ya got it sorted out with the admin, and thanks. Speaking of DR, is how're Abi's music coming (if she's still on it)?

She's still on, and she has all the music for DR done (for chapter 1). All that's left is some spriting, one map, and some cutscene eventing.

And yah, it was good they had an IRC chanel, it was the only way I could have found the Admin :P Needless to say, I nominated Quintessence for many of the story based roles (best plot, best character), and a couple audio-visual (atmosphere, music). I hope you get a couple awards for it.

Ditto Arwym. =D

Oh yes, I don't know why but why is Q-TBV being considered as "Amateur"?

Sure I will support Quintessence.
I am surprised the name „Squall“ didn’t exist before ^^

I wanted to vote, but

Hey there was an error! There's a good chance we know about it and we're sorry.

@Sore: C'mon, you don’t even have to confirm your mail adress. It takes no more than 20 seconds to register.

Server must've been real busy, heheh.

Thanks for your time guys. Much appreciated. I think the nomination period closes after a couple of days from now, and voting starts then.

P.S.
If anyone ends up nominating a title from here for the Storytelling and Direction at the very bottom, I personally think it should be Do You Remember My Lullaby rather than Quintessence. One being that it's the one with more focus on storytelling of the two; and two being that I'm hoping to have it receive more recognition through its exposure, since I honestly do believe that it's a sincere little real-life-occurrence story that people may find appreciation in little things from.
