Title: Black Cape [Symphonic Rock/Metal]
Post by: Reives on January 30, 2009, 08:48:15 PM
I don't do these types of music often, but here's a short rock/metal-esque song I just finished!

"Black Cape"
Composed by and (c) 2009 Kan [reives] Gao

Still trying to get a hang of the rock/metal style. This song has a rather sudden ending as it stands now; I do have plans to extend it in the future. c': Ty for listening.

Quote from: Reives' PM to QM
As for Black Cape and Slum Chase, I'm cool with them being used, so that's fine.

Oh, and what do you guys think about using music of this genre in Quintessence? Not that I am really planning to at the moment but.
There's electric guitar in To Realize in the intro, but it may be unfit else where considering the rest of the tracks.

^_^ Nice one but it's kinda weird in the beginning... Quite chaotic when the (what-do-you-call-that...) ermm.... the instrument that made the "chiang" sound came in at 00:09. Erm... didn't really know how to say... it's kinda maybe because the tune after 00:09 isn't too impactful, so the "chiang"-ing is quite weird, in a sense.

Nevermind... =_= I don't really understand what I wrote anyway... but I like the bass guitar part that came in at 00:38. That lead-in is successful compared to the first one at 00:09.

X_X Ah... does my words make sense? Nevermind if they don't. Sometimes I just can't express my views properly... D:

Nice one, Reives. I like this style and the instruments you used.
But I donít think that something like this would fit into the Quintessence atmosphere. You have a lot of freedom in opening and ending/credit songs (The intro To Realize e.g. is very different from the usual Quintessence music), but in the normal game you should be careful. I know you wonít ruin the atmosphere with a completely improper song, but itís hard to judge after you heard the song a lot of times and watched the scene. If you play it the first time (= if you are the player), you maybe wonít like it.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Yeah, the entrance is a bit rushed. The ending as well I think. I'll be working on fixing those parts up and expanding it in the future. c:

I think it'd have some trouble fitting in as a BGM in Quintessence as well; perhaps for special occasions, but probably not BGM. Kind of reminds me of the style of One Winged Angel from FF7, but there is mechanical stuff and electric guitars in that world to begin with, where as there isn't in Quintessence.

Perhaps this version of existing Quintessence songs on special OST CD? :P

Why is it written RAAAWWWWWRRR GAHRAAAAAHHHHH GHARRRRRRRR RAAAWWWRROOAARRR in my Window Media Player  ???

Anyway, you can really do anything can you  :P. It may not fit into Quintessence but it would for many games, I'm sure. Nice one.

It doesn't loop.

That's the only unpositive thing I can say about this song.

meh make it loop and use it as a bgm when Vikon tries to make a serious story but absolutely fails at it and makes it a little comedical.

I really like this one.  Shame it's so short.

I'm... amazed. I had my doubts when I opened it, but there's definitely potential here, especially if you got those violins to sound harsher.
