This is a list of Quintessence threads on various forum communities. c: While having a home forum here is very convenient, they're still a major source of "advertisement".
If you are a frequent visitor to them, it'd be greatly appreciated if ya can drop by once a while and give the thread a boost!

Good idea, Reivier.
Just before you wrote this, I bumped a thread in a German RPG Maker board. I hope my advertisment will make more people curious. I promised that the won’t regret it and many other things and I think I was convenient. The problem is just that humans are lazy and won’t try/believe things until they really like them/see them.
-
Thanks a lot Squall, it's much appreciated. Feel free to post the thread urls here as well, I'll include it in the opening post.

I doubt that many peoples from here are registered in these boards, but here are the threads.
I will try to bump them from time to time.
Maybe I will also register at some of the English forums. I know all of the websites you posted, but I’m (was?) only registered on rmxp.org and rpgrevolution.
-
Reives I think I'm probably gonna copy & paste those threads and use them for ad-ing Quintessence, since I don't think I can make a good Quintessence ad myself(I'd probably spoil a lot of things or leave out a lot of important stuff.)
Forums that I intend to put up ads(not yet done so):
SakuraHana (Just a note, apparently secretflayer is also a member there)
DragonAdopters Forum
Click-click
When I've done so I think I'll post links up here.

Here is another. Apparently, the people here who can somehow help is me (somehow), Reives, aislingyngaio and nic_c12 sometimes.

Thanks a lot everyone. :'> That really helps. And sure Sora, I can make up a post to copy+paste for those who wants to do that later today. c:
Lol, I was copy+pasting the German threads Squall posted over to Google Translate (for some reason I couldn't get it to translate the thread directly); it was pretty cool to read. I'm still amazed how so many German speakers are able to read English. o:
Something that amused me was that in the last post of one of those German threads, someone said "We see ourselves in Aeria" (Referring to Aeria=Germany etc.) - It was in good tone, but I was a little afraid that the reference may offend some people. It was certainly not made with an offensive stance in mind though, of course.
P.S. ^If that's the case, Lunair = German? o:

I didn’t realize it until you said it. Sorry, but I still don’t know what you mean. What reference? :o
-
I think what Reives meant was that comparing Aeria to Germany might be offensive to some people (and they'll probably say something like Germany is way nicer than that)
though for one thing, copy+paste needs some manual work to add in the links ~.~
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aryan_race
Basically a cheesy play-on-word from the word Aryan, which is like blonde hair and blue eyes (where as Aerian = blonde hair and purple eyes), heheh.
@Sora:
Hm, maybe someone could copy-paste the source code embedded in [ code ] brackets here. :~ Or you can just quote the said posts, and it'll have the links ready.
-
~.~ but I'm not a member in those forums, which is why I can't quote those posts.

Ah, now I understand :). I thought of this, too, but wasn’t sure if you meant that and the German word for Aryan is "arisch", so there are not that clear connections.
I don’t think that it’s meant like this, but who knows? ;)
-
Ah heheh, I see.
Well, I posted 2 threads just now. One at GamingWorld, and one at an Australian game community which has a monthly magazine that includes a DVD; content-wise I'm sure it can get on the DVD if pursued, but I'm not sure if they accept games that aren't 100% finished.

You might want to start a new topic there :P

Thanks guys. I'll post Chapter XI in the threads once the combined package is out. (Hopefully this weekend at last *fingers crossed*.
-
when you say 'this weekend' do you mean saturday or sunday?
-
Probably Sunday. :P I just finished fixing all the bugs from the past few months, gonna start betaing tonight (gonna get a macro program so it'll spam Enter key for me through like 75% of the game, hahah).
-
k. cuz i was gonna invite my friend over on sunday (cuz i finally have an open day), and he always plays the new q-tbv chap at my house ;)
-
Creation Asylum hasn't gotten a Quintessence Update ever since VoTB, if I remember correctly. Should I just link them here after Ch XI is out? (I might get kicked for serious necroposting, though ._.)
-
I actually posted it there again after Chapter 9 package or so, but it was in a new threads. o: After this release is ready, we got some serious distribution to do.
-
Really? I'll go and check, cuz I typed Quintessence and it gave me VoTB ._.
-
Could you link the VoTB thread by the way? It must have some nostalgia value. o: And you can just look up member Reives and the last thread under him should be the new one.
-
i was looking through rpgrevlution's gamelist (http://www.rpgrevolution.com/games/platform/rpg-maker-xp.html) and i saw someone posted q-tbv up there, too. not sure if someone's said that yet, but i just found it so...
-
As soon as you release the new version I'm going to make a forum topic about Quintessence over on TVTropes.org, and I'm going to start a page for it as well. I'm sure we'll all have a lot to say about it over there, and you'll probably end up with a few more fans like me.
-
@Vasha:
Yeah, I remember seeing one a while ago. It wasn't very polished though, so we could probably make an official one there or something.
@Brick:
I'm a fan of TVTropes (who isn't?), but I wasn't aware of its forum. o: Sure thing, that'd certainly be quite amusing. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

So many people miss it. I love the place; it's the best community I've been to, almost entirely troll-free and with more posts per day than you could read as a full time job if you didn't select a few subforums you're "actually" interested in and ignore the real spam topics. Freeware videogames we start topics on tend to last anywhere from half a dozen posts to a few pages (though a page there is 25 posts, not the usual 15, since we talk a lot), but the ones we really take to end up with massive threads; the game Iji has a thread containing a whopping 690 posts and we only made that after it had eaten a few pages of some more generalized topics. As plot-centric as Quintessence is, I'm expecting it to generate some good discussion, though I don't think any of the ones with really long topics are games whose creators have their own forums (instead, you'll probably get several new members here).
-
Wasn't there some tr trope called 'god's shrug' or something that we labelled for reives? o.O
-
Shrug of God (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ShrugOfGod), part of the "Word of God" family of tropes (thus the name). I'm not aware of anywhere that this relates to Reives; I'm not gonna fault him for not spoiling parts of the plot we haven't reached yet in the plot. If anything, he's gone out of his way to insist that the prologue is not going to be the same as the ending.
-
I think he was not referring to Quintessence but The Mirror Lied (http://www.freebirdgames.com/mirrorlied.html).
-
yup, that's what it was. ^^

TV Tropes forum thread: Exists! (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=uy7czgabcyguudzyoelfoow3&page=1#1) (I got tired of waiting, and it's close enough to Saturday).
-
^nice description :gothat!:
-
@Squall:
Many thanks as always! You're like the official Freebird ambassador to Germany, heheh.
@Brick:
Heheh that's okay, it pretty much is Saturday in many parts of the world already anyhow. You just made me realize that I've yet to update the main website with the updated link to the 1-11 package, which I just scrambled and did, so it's all good now. Thanks for the rather flattering opener! There will probably be some backlash on the thread at the story-gameplay-ratio of the game among other things, but I hope some there enjoy it. c:
-
Ehh, considering the purpose of TvTropes, I'm hoping that people there won't have a problem with story-to-gameplay ratios that fall closer to visual novel than dungeon crawl. Hoping.
-
Heheh, good point. Hopefully that'll be the case.
-
Heading out for lunch at the moment; after I come back, it's time for some mass distribution. :gothat!:
-
I do agree with the comment of the troper who mentioned the stats. While making Alden level 98 gave me a good chuckle, I really think you should get a different menu system. I mean I LOVE that menu system, but it makes the game feel lacking in gameplay (since you can see so much that isn't used). You might want to look for a very simple CMS, or script your own (that's what I'm doing in my own game, since a lot of mechanics don't fit well with traditional RPGs). If you gave it a simple one scene CMS from which you can see your party, use items, and save/quit, then it would feel so much less empty. I mean there are no stats in Legend of Zelda, but no one really thinks about it because there isn't a section of the menu mentioning irrelevant numbers.
On an on topic note, I love how much your advertising this game. It's amazing, and I am glad to know more and more people are getting to see it :)
-
Hey guys! I just came over to see if there is some progress on Quintessence because it has been quite a while ^^
Will the series continue / has it already continued past Chapter XI that I'm not aware of?
-
A brave soul has recently stepped in to help with the open-source project: http://freebirdgames.com/forum/index.php?topic=4823.msg177794 (http://freebirdgames.com/forum/index.php?topic=4823.msg177794)
Sadly, progress has been minuscule overall. Nothing new apart from what's already out.

Does someone know if the quintessence will be one day finished, I just loved where it was going and I can be patient as long as I can see the ending.
Thank you

That was your one wish, Boxter. You don't get any more after that! ;)

Well I have a special attachment to this story as I found this one better than to the moon.
After all, to the moon was greatly influence by one precise thing, the movie inception.
While quintessence is influence by at least ten different scenario while having completely unique parts.
The characters are also so human like and full of big fault that they are just incredible.
It's actually difficult to do a scenario with such egoistic characters because they won't accept to help each other without compromise, and this game does have a lot of them.
Anyway, I should finish by saying, no wonder that one of your game reive have receive such popularity when your first project was that good.
-
After all, to the moon was greatly influence by one precise thing, the movie inception.
It's probably more influenced by Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and some events in his personal life (like Kan stated in some interviews).
(Plus: Frankly, I don't even like Inception that much)
-
I do prefer to the moon take on the subject.
I also find to the moon to be quite personal with its characters and that is also great.
But I have to admit that the subject is modifying one little memory quite deep into peoples mind so that they die happy.
The thing that makes it personal is that part of my sentence: "so that they die happy".
The rest of the sentence could describe inception when you think about it.
-
In Inception it's more a dreamworld of the subconscious, less past memories (plus they have some stupid stuff about dream within in the dream being exponentially slower in time progress). It shares that it's about changing something in the mind to reach a goal, but that's a very broad topic.
Humans are great at finding similarities, so I think the notion that an author took ideas from game/movie/book x that was released before is applied very quickly.
-

Speaking of which... Inception has ripped off the idea from Philip K. Dick's "Ubik". Just sayin'.
-
Aye, the film inspirations for TtM were pretty much Eternal Sunshine otSM, Up, and Memento. Inception's concept's pretty similar in some way, but by the time it came out we already had (and missed) our first announced release date (April 2010) :P
-
Thank for the explanation, I actually wanted all of it.
So all these details are interesting.
Thank you again
-
But while we're on the subject, I wonder what inspired Quintessence, if anything.
-
But while we're on the subject, I wonder what inspired Quintessence, if anything.
I think Reives cited Animorphs and Elfen Lied at one point. But I can't even begin to remember when that was or in what context.

Yes, it will be.
I am glad to hear that; I keep visiting your page every year to check whether there has been some development.
While I have bought all your other games in the meantime, and while they were all good, Quintessence is special and I really hope to see it completed someday.

I've just came up to ask same questions after years just 'watching', yeah, almost 10 years since XI.
I'm really glad to hear that it would continue. Thank you,
p/s: my first post after all :reivsweat:
-
Would be awesome to play final version, however I think that unfinished one has some magic as it lefts space for our imagination. Finishing Quintessence comes with huge responsibility of keeping the same high level of story quality. I believe you can make it!
-
Haven't checked this forum for years, but quintessence is always lingering in my mind. It's a great great story with fun gameplay.
However, there seems to have no dedicated official quintessence sub-forum anymore; I can only hope you guys find the faith to finish this long waiting gem.
-
Thanks for the concern and nudge, oct. Don't worry, the boards are hidden for now for a different reason, and the project is the opposite of cancelled. :)
-
They're hidden?! What for I wonder... >u>
Could be maintenance, could be clean up or maybe it could be used for progress related stuff :deepstuff:
