Title: "Everything's Alright" lyrics perspective?
Post by: richiebob on November 24, 2013, 10:23:33 AM
So, this has puzzled me for a long while now.  I absolutely adore this song, and have sort of lazily accepted the switch in perspectives mid-song.  From whose perspective is this song?  Or is it just the tune from the music box?  Even if that were the case, the perspectives still change.  I also believe that this song is supposed to take a character's perspective, as that impacts its power.

At first, the lyrics read:  "She said, 'I'm sad,' somehow without any words.  I just stood there searching for an answer."  This makes me feel like the song is from Johnny's perspective, speaking about River.

Later:  "Why do my words always lose their meaning?  What I feel, what I say, there's such a rift between them.  He said, 'I can't really seem to read you.'  I just stood there never know what I should do."

So, the perspective changes.  Is this supposed to be a duet with the chorus shared?

Thanks.

It's been a while since I've listened to it, and I'm in the middle of listening to The Wall now, so I can't switch and find out, but I'm pretty sure it does switch perspectives in the middle of the song, starting with Johnny and later switching to River.

'Everything's Alright' (NB: generally considered grammatically incorrect, 'alright' is gaining a foothold so I didn't change it.)

Short steps
Deep breaths
Everything is alright
Chin up
I can't
Step into the spotlight
She said
I'm sad
Somehow without any words
I just
Stood there
Searching for an answer

When this world is no more
The moon is all we'll see
I'll ask you
To fly away with me
Until the stars all fall down
They empty from the sky
But I don't mind
If you're with me
Then everything's alright

Why do
My words
Always lose their meaning
What I feel
What I say
There's such a rift between them
He said
I can't
Really seem to read you
I just
Stood there
Never know what I should do

When this world is no more
The moon is all we'll see
I'll ask you
To fly away with me
Until the stars all fall down
They empty from the sky
But I don't mind
If you're with me
Then everything's alright

If you're with me
Then everything's alright

Here you go rafhael

hahahah I guess all of us love this song...
Here's a quick take I just did of John's part (anyone wanna make a duet? lol), single take, lame mic from laptop... Sorry for the bad recording (and maybe the bad voice hahaha), only did it because someone came up with this song again and I really like it.

Cheers!
