Title: I can never thank you enough for making this touching game
Post by: Kixur on September 04, 2012, 11:22:59 PM
I found out about To the Moon a few days ago when I saw someone I'm subscribed to on YouTube had put up a Let's Play of it. I watched it from beginning to end once the final episode was put up, and was awed at how amazing it was. It kept me guessing until the end, and along the way I laughed.
Spoiler: show
I didn't start crying until Everything's Alright started playing.

What got me more then anything else was River. Normally, I hate female characters in video games because of how, from what I've seen, most are portrayed as giggling idiots and weaklings. But River... I can connect with her. Mainly for one reason.
Spoiler: show
We both have autism. I know what it's like to live with it, on the far end of the spectrum. Still smart and functioning, but socially outcast. Living and growing up with aspergers, grouped in with people on the polar opposite side of the spectrum isn't fun.

Like River's sister (can't think of her name right now) said at one point, it's like living as an actress. Pretending to be normal. Pretending to be something your not. It's not easy, and I often think I've become a complete stranger.

Like River, I spend most of my time alone, just reading or playing a videogame. I'm content with the few friends I have. The few people that have gained my trust and earned such a title from me. I have been used, led on, lied to, and grouped in with imbeciles just so a school district could get more money out of having me there.

But I shouldn't make this all about me. I wanted to thank you for donating half of the proceeds to charities dealing with autism. That fact alone makes me wish even more that I wasn't poor and could afford to buy this game. And Thank you again for making River the beautiful, quiet girl she is.

I can utterly relate I think that Rivers story appealed to me because of her syndrome but the supporting characters and plot twists were well placed and excellently timed. It's one of the very few games I cried to but that music and the ending IMHO make it impossible for ANYONE not to :'). This game has made me learn a lot about myself and coping with what river had, for that alone I am grateful, but my thanks is immeasurable to the people that worked so hard on this game.

But I can try....THANK YOU :3  :)
