Title: CISPA :o
Post by: Tumbles on May 03, 2012, 03:59:01 AM

I'm scared.  ??? I understand the government's desire to fight piracy, and frankly I agree with them on some aspects. But this whole CISPA thing just seems like a huge invasion of privacy, and I for one don't feel comfortable with being constantly surveyed. (Though they won't see much except for posts on Freebirdia.)  XD

Surely this is just a way companies can gather information about you then send a horde of spam at you under the guise of an anti-piracy law??

"Companies already supporting CISPA and currently in the process of being hacked by anonymous include:"

Wait, so SOPA was just like a smokescreen? Holy crap, this is scary...

That sounds like a best case scenario.  :seraisweat: Although, I get enough spam as it is!!

I know, they are insane. They need to calm down with their want to control internet. They know they don't have {enough} power over it so they are coming up with the most ridiculous ideas to get the control.

At least with CISPA, Obama promised to veto it if it got that far. We'll see what will happen with that...

It's a bunch of old guys who've never used the internet that are coming up with these things. People are always scared of what they don't understand.  :reivsweat:

I understand their desire to control piracy, that's only fair. But these extreme measures are getting more and more ridiculous.

Ugh. I just heard about this one recently while looking up internet legislation for my current events class. Why can't they just stop it? Can't they see all the protests and realize that making an even harsher law isn't going to get any support?

If you happen to have a copy of the bill (or I should say law?), please do post it here. I seriously had enough with these bills. These will affect people outside US for sure.

It took a bit of searching, but I believe this is the bill. It's there in full. :)

Earlier versions are available too.

So... this passed through the House of Representatives.

One of the sponsors:

Quote
“You know, without our ideas, without our innovation that countries like China are stealing every single day, we will cease to be a great nation," Rogers said. "They are slowly and silently and quickly stealing the value and prosperity of America."

Ugh. Obama, please veto this bill like you promised.

Is he saying that the bill will protect their 'innovation' from the Chinese??

That's what it sounds like.

Just read the article (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/26/cispa-passes-house_n_1457548.html). It scares me.

I'm pretty sure the Chinese would have people competent enough to get around any security the bill apparently offers and still steal the ideas if it passed, if they wanted to.

I just read the article about the amendments they made, and the dude said something like 'it's always been my dream to stop chinese infringement without infringing on the rights of us citizens.'

Ugh.

What he is trying to do it seems is get people to thing it is a good idea because it is stopping those damn communists and their infringement on things, then whilst everyone is preoccupied with their hate for communists they fail to read what else the bill does.

Yeah, pretty much. That or he's just a racist. Also:

Quote
Rogers described his bill as "non-invasive" and "very limiting."
Quote
Rogers said his bill has nothing in common with SOPA.

"They're comparing apples and oranges," Rogers said of Anonymous. The two bills "are so completely different there is absolutely no comparison."

Dude. You're making a law to skirt around anti-trust laws so that it's legal for businesses to share NON-ANONYMOUS information about their customers to the federal government. How is that NOT invasive? How is that NOT just like SOPA And PIPA?

It is the same, they obstinately refuse to give up don't they.

Is this meant to be the picture for blocked websites because it looks extremely communist??

So now they're using the Chinese as an excuse to put in a bill that would affect lots of the world, including the US people- and about the value and prosperity of America? We should be thinking about the value and prosperity of the world as a whole, not segregate the world. Geez, I'm beginning to think that America is using China like a white person would use a black person back in the early 1900s- accused of things that everyone thinks happened even though theres no proof. Sure, China may do a lot of pirating but I don't think that has much to do with the value and prosperity of America.
