I received a PM from Thunderbird :

Quote from: Thunderbird
Hey King Kadelfek,
will your new version of dreamaker be compitable with the old files? (able to import a 3.8 dialogue file)

I've just tried to use your tool and re-import a file, but I receive an error.

Do you know what this is about?

(my answers in the next message, [ b ] balise doesn't work in this message)

Is DreaMaker x compatible with DreaMaker y ?

Any version of DreaMaker is not compatible with older or newer versions (dmk files or txt files). Because there are a lot of modifications between each version, don't try to make cross version solutions.
RM files are 100% compatible with each version of DMK : so each time you update DMK, just include your modifications in the dmk files (Step 3) and convert to RM files (Step 4).

What can I do when I got errors ?

Explain your problem in this topic. King Kadelfek receives a notification by mail and come to help.

I got an error while including dialogs : undefined method `set_texte'

(to do)

How can I include dialogs when I got errors ?
(this problem needs a real tutorial)

The txt file is splitable, so you can use dichotomy : make 2 files from your original dialogs.txt file and try to include both of them. In the one which have errors, use dichotomy again.

DMK 3.8
You can easily split the file by maps. You can split a map, but you have to keep the order Map > Event > Page.
If you have Map 1 > Event 1 > Page 1 > Page 2 > Event 2 > Page 1, you can :
- delete a page : Map 1 > Event 1 > Page 1 > Page 2 > Event 2 > Page 1
- delete an event : Map 1 > Event 1 > Page 1 > Page 2 > Event 2 > Page 1

If you keep the Map > Event > Page order, it will be ok.
Keep all the #### lines and the return lines, it is important !

DMK XP 4
Each dialog is independant, so you can split the file as you want.

I get this error at all map parts. Tried dividing into two parts, tried just using the first map.

You will not have to worry about dialogs with 3 or more lines. If you need 3 or 4 lines, just write them and it will be ok. No need to add code. The dialogs will be splitted when SenorKaffee will convert the files to RMXP (Step 4 in DMK).

But don't put 3 lines dialogs right now. I will synchronize with SenorKaffee to take the current work and update the dialogs file to the new version.
I'm currently crash testing DMK XP 4.9 before sending it to SenorKaffee.
Maybe it's about this?

The file I have right now is the full German translation file we want to work with.
Shall I send it to you by mail?

About the incompatibility of DMK versions; is there a way to use the "more lines" option that is present in the new DMKxp without restarting the translation from the beginning?

You are translating the game from german to another language ? Or you want to include the german translation into the game ?

You should send me this first rxdata map and the dialogs file.

SenorKaffee will include all modifications done so far in the game. Then he will reexport dialogs with the new version of DMK.
The new dialogs file will be half english - half another language.

All dialogs are independent with the new version. So I can create a mod to delete all non english dialogs, so only untranslated dialogs will remain (and vice versa).

EDIT : it's not a problem if you have dialogs with more than 2 lines. I you used the adding texboxes glitch, I will detect it.

The file I'm using is our (SenorKaffee's and my, we are both in the same team) translation so far.
-> it's translation from English to German
The translation done before into the game still has some old stuff left, because there were importing problems.
So the file we want to work with and all current translations done is the file I have currently on my laptop.
If we use some older file, we will have to redo some parts of the translation.

I hope SenorKafee is back soon, so we can check this to avoid unnecessary work. I will send you the mail then, if still necessary.

Ok Thunderbird.
I thought only SenorKaffee was using DreaMaker to include final translations.

I think maybe it's the "Step 3 problem". It happens when someone does Step 3 twice, instead of Step 3 > Step 2 > Step 3. When you do Step 3, datas are changed, so dialog's ids change as well, so you need to do Step 2 right after that.
(the automatic step 3 + step 2 option was temporarily disabled in DMK 3.8, but that was the last public version...)

But don't worry, I can extract X messages from the game and replace them by X messages from your translation. So you will have a properly working file.

Ok to wait for SenorKaffee. He said to me he was finishing another project, but he will be back this week.

He was ^^
But as he had no time atm, I've done more work on the translation google doc file and tried my luck using the Dreamaker right now.

I dont think i get the answer. I am on a different team (italian). We have translated part of the dialogue, and we are leaving behind the parts where we need to add dialogue boxes.
What do we do when DMK 4.9 is released? If the txt files are different, then we can't copy paste everything, right? I suppose the "transfer" may take a lot of time.

As SenorKaffee, you will have to include translations done (Step 3) and make a new txt file with DMK 4.9 (Step 1 and 2).

Could you send me your email adress ? I made a spreadsheet with contacts of the whole team, I would like to add you (and other people from italian team). We need people able to speak english within each team.

DMK XP 4.9.1 will be available this week end.

I've managed to import all stuff with version 3.8 (phew...that was hard work)
Just tried to start the new Dreamaker version 4.9.1 , but it just says "loading.." and shuts down then.
There is another message, but I can't read it - it's gone too fast.

The question is abvious, what to do? ^^

There is a problem with DreaMaker.ini. Do you delete the old DreaMaker.ini from DMK 3.8 before you install DreaMaker XP 4.x ?
If you didn't delete it :
- delete DreaMaker.ini
- launch DMK XP 4.x
- a new DreaMaker.ini will be created
- DMK XP 4.x works

Sorry for the forthcoming dumb question, but it's the first time I use software more complex than a word processor.

Do I necessarily need a project/developmental version of Ttm in order to import dialogues and do a little playtesing on my own or am I simply doing something wrong?
With the commercial version I get an error message saying it's not a RM project.

Yes, DreaMakers needs to access the RXDATA-files. Those are encrypted in the RGSSAD-file for the commercial version.

Okay I'm truly and utterly at wit's end. I've spent the last couple of days downloading and trying to working with DreaMaker. So far I've been able to extract text and edit it, but when I try to put it back nothing happens.

I saw your suggestion for doing step 2 then 3 then 2 again, but I don't think I quite understand. Here is what I've been doing:

1. Complete step 2 and get a dialogues.txt, then rename this to dialogues1.txt
2. Compete step 2 to get a new dialogues.txt
3. Edit the new dialogues.txt
4. Complete step 3 (when it says WRITE, that means it went through?)
5. Compete step 4

When I'm done doing this I go to check my game but none of my translated parts go through. What am I doing wrong?

It was the method for DMK 3.8. DMK XP 4.9+ don't need you to do this.
There is an automatic Step 2 right after Step 3, so your file dialogues.txt is updated.

Yes, "write" means the file have been modified.

Sorry, But since our language has a pattern of connected letters therefore, in spite of my tries, I found it impossible to make the game show the letters in connected form. do you have a solution ?
(To illustrate the problem:
This is how we read and write : سلام خسته نباشید
And this is how the game shows:س ل ا م خ س ت ه ن ب ا ش ی د )
Im really helpless :(

Phew - that's a harsh one. Is this an arabic font? The letter spacing is most likely some standard value that is neutral for most languages.

I've found a thread about arabic text in RPG Maker VX, but not for XP.

Hey guys,

This is Josh from PLAYISM working on the Japanese translation.
I had a question from my translator about whether or not he could work inside Word.
I just wanted to make sure there would be no problems copying the translation from Word into the txt file and then using the DreaMaker program.

Sometimes weird things can happen when copying from Word(especially with Unicode encoding, etc.) so I wanted to ask and see if there were any possible problems.

DMK expects a dialogues.txt in UTF-8. As long as you can provide that (and the font in RMXP knows the characters) , everything should be fine. But are you really sure you want to copy/paste thousands of dialogue lines?

Sorry, I'm from Vietnam and so in love with this game. I'm trying to translate it into Vietnamese, but there's so many idioms or words which i couldn't understand. Like "human-hogging hipster" - i couldn't find out what it means. i also didn't understand why the conservation between John and Nick was cruel? So why he confess to River after those years?
I hope people would help me here. Thank so much. I cried a lot through this game, it's very special for me...

Chinese people really love your game. "To the Moon" got 9.8 on emule! (10 is the best)
Really, really love Freebird's game, especially Quintessence, and I hope that Quintessence can have a good ending! ;D

Hello,

Firstly, apologize for my broken English here. I know my grammar was very bad.

Me and my friend have a plan to translate this game into Thai language. The story of this game are just marvelous and we want people in our country to have a chance to playing it. But you know, in my country (Thailand), many people are English-text phobia. They love great story game & novel but will turn away when seeing a wall of English character. This's a huge barricade for them. So... that why I want to translate it.

The problem is...
I read from another topic (http://freebirdgames.com/forum/index.php?topic=3639.0) and knowing that this game incompatible with Asian language (I think including Thai). But... it's was every old (2011/12/19).
So, do anyone know localization for Asian language was ready or still in progress?
If it was completed, my friend can start translating (in fact, I think he already done some of it).

Another question,
Suppose we done translating, how can we apply our translation to other people?
I know how to use DreaMaker but don't know how can other people use our translation.

Thank you,

I stoped to develop DreaMaker. I'm working on a big budget RPG in France and I have only a little time to work on personnal projects.
I would like to stop programming, to focus on my previous skills (the artistic ones).

I gave the code source of DreaMaker to several people. But I don't think they are currently working on DreaMaker. I would like to put DreaMaker on open source licence, but I need to find a developer ready to work on the project to do so.

I'm happy to see that To the Moon seems to have a big success (front page on the biggest french video game news site, Steam, etc). I'm a bit sad that I didn't have the time to make DMK compatible with asian characters.
DMK will be useful for a lot more projects, and I hope it will be usefull one day for asian projects as well.

Hi. I have one question.

There was this message on Twitter:

But obviously that there is still no any of this localizations in Steam.

So, what happened with them?

Sorry if someone already asked this somewhere.

^Aren't these things handled by Steam staff? o.O Because if Reives said so himself I doub that it got held up on side of Freebird Games.

Hello. Is there any possibility to preview translation in game? Or to check where, when and in what context single dialogue was used?

Nope, you can only replace the texts and play the game to test it.
(Of course you could also open the file in RPG Maker XP, but have fun finding the stuff there...)

It's best to have played the game recently, if you want to translate it.

I watched some gameplays on YT. But I forgot couple thing. Anyway I'll play it once again by myself and maybe then start translating. Thanks for help.

If you need help to find something just write me, as betatester and German translator I could tell you most of the scenes in my sleep.

So, I'm working on polish translation, it's cool and stuff, however...

Here's the question: can I change characters' names in the menu? The thing is, in my language there is no dot in "Dr." - I need to change it to "Dr". As  a self-respecting grammar nazi, I can't leave it like that.
I tried Actors in dialogues.txt, but to no avail.

I think this is one of the things you need to change in the RPG Maker editor.

Oh, I already did and followed your instructions. Great thread, thanks for making it.

In Database/Actors Eva and Neil already have "Dr".
Also tried searching through the scripts, keyword: "Watts", no results.
Didn't find anything in Graphic/Pictures either.

This is gonna be hard...

Maybe Reives changed it somewhere, because the Neil/Eva sprite with horse is another character with different name in the RPG Maker, that doesn't show up in the game. But I don't know where, sorry :<

I still have much to do, maybe it'll resolve itself later. Thanks anyway.

By the way, what font did you use for the title screen and quotes (I mean, 'Quote 1.png' and so on)?

Well, it did. It turns out you just need to start a new game after changing actors' names. Every time I tried, I was loading a savegame made before changing actors and that's what was wrong.
The names of playable characters seem to be written down in savegames (which would make sense, seeing how many RPGM projects let players choose their names).

My question was pretty pointless. That's what you get for not testing things properly.

Story time. For future reference. I managed to solve it myself. Well, the hard thing is to explain why, more than it was to solve it.

1. An error out of nowhere:
Spoiler: show
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2F5gIbVYJ.png&hash=9d73fd0f4e7968c3eb1f432559e716d0)

Happens before this line:
Spoiler: show
Quote
-------------------------------------------------[Map:53:6:0:31]
\ignr\e[0]\nm[ Dr. Rosalene ]
"To znaczy, \.\.\isam\i gadasz
o swoim dziadku całkiem sporo."

Original english line:

-------------------------------------------------[Map:53:6:0:31]
\ignr\e[0]\nm[ Dr. Rosalene ]
"I mean, \.\.you sure talk about
\iyour\i grandfather a lot."

2. Try one more time - game crashes, same moment, same way.

3. Create a fake "FIsabelle.png" file.

4. Doesn't crash anymore, but the line mentioned above now looks like this:
Spoiler: show
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FmCdrKTV.png&hash=8d0f503344b61c9c88bb2be058d9c1fc)

See how "Dr Rosalene" is now "Isabelle" somehow?

5. Delete my fake FIsabelle. Change the line to original english one. Doesn't crash, no problems.

6. Translate the line once more, a little bit differently this time (without "\i").

7. Everything's alright.

8. Conclusion:
Spoiler: show
You have no reason for this! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TBQywGmMjQ#)

Well, I think RPGM just doesn't like "\." and "\i" next to each other. Or maybe three commands grouped together are too much ("\.\.\isam\i").

Bug report

I am using DreaMaker 3.8 to translate a game Yume2kki (a fangame of Yumenikki).
At first I successfully convert lmu map files to DMKs.
Then I translated the text and put the text to DMKs.
Finally I convert DMKs to lmu map files again.  All successfully.

However, when I tried to convert translated lmu map files to DMKs once more, it gave errors.

Code: [Select]
The instructions listing has failed. Map0001.lmu
traduire.rb:20:in `raisee'
extraction.rb:135:in `separer_map_test'
extraction.rb:19:in `extraction'
extraction.rb:12:in `each'
extraction.rb:12:in `extraction'
ctl.rb:12:in `decompiler_maps'
interface.rb:84:in `interface_decompiler'
interface.rb:29:in `interface'
main.rb:127:in `run_rb'
main.rb:158
The similar error happens in Map0001,0002,0006,0070,0150,0191,0402,0411,0453
But all these maps can be read in RPGMaker 2000.
Can this bug be fixed?
I have uploaded both the map files and the DMK files.

I remember that you shouldn't try to import maps twice, you should always start the process fresh with the export.
Maybe the author has a better answer for you.

I remember version 3.8 being a pain in the a** to import that stuff back.
But yes, it can be fixed.
I don't know it exactly anymore, but you could try this:
1. Make a new extraction file , copy the translated texts from the maps which give you problems in there (don't change any of the structure! only replace the texts!) If it still gives you errors you have changed something you weren't allowed to.
2. You can transfer single maps, so you can reimport the maps without errors later on (just delete the other stuff).

Uhm, is this thing still up in the air, or has it stayed just a dream (for now)?

In case there is still a need, I am still up for doing the translation for Hungarian (and if there is a Japanese project, I can help with that too, though that'd be a too big chunk to do by myself, unlike Hungarian).

Hi guys. I don't know if I am to late, but I would like to make a translation of the game to the Serbian language.
Would it be pointless if I do it? Would it be accepted and integrated if I translate the game?
I see that tutorials are pretty outdated and a lot of links are invalid. Is there any specific version of this DreaMaker software that I should use and could there be any compatibility issues?
Can I just translate this excel and send it to the Director??

Also, I get this error code with DreaMaker 4.9.1

I think I'm awfully late to post here (sorry if bumping old topics is bad), but I searched everywhere I could and didn't find what I needed.

I'm looking forward for translating Quintessence to brazilian portuguese, but when I try to get to step one and convert the RM maps to DMK maps, I get a message saying that "There are no RM maps in this folder". I followed the steps, and even though DreaMaker didn't make a DMK folder and etcetera in the same folder, I managed to get the files it creates at first startup and everything set, but yet... :/

I really need help at this, never translated a game before.  :-X Thanks in advance!  :3

First you need to get an unencrypted version of the game. To do that, you should send a private message to Reives (http://freebirdgames.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=3).

One thing worth mentioning that I've just discovered.

DreaMaker does NOT like paths that contain special characters like "", "ă", "ę" and so on, so keep it simple and try to use english letters only.

For example a path like "C:\To the Moon\" will not work.
"C:\To the Moon\A" will work.

I still haven't gotten a reply from Reives XDDD Time to send another note, haha. And about the paths, only the paths, right? There is no problem at all about accentuation on texts in game?

Yes, you can use them in the game's text.

Note that A Bird Story is being released in 8 days, so he probably is rather busy.

... etc.
I had the same error but on a different location. It seems that DreaMaker XP doesn't really like \is (italic marker followed immediately by the small letter s). I mean DreaMaker somehow translates it in such a way that those errors will occur during gameplay. By moving \i in front of the space character (\i s) the error disappeared into thin air.
It's weiiiiiird...  :whaaa?:
Title: Re: Questions / Answers about everything (DreaMaker included)

Maybe "\is" is a marker that actually does something?

Well, doesn't really matter. So it wasn't the fault of markers grouped together (like "\.\.\i"). Good to know.
