Title: New Freebird logo in the works
Post by: Reives on November 27, 2011, 11:48:57 PM
My cousin Adam's working on a new logo for us. :) Here's an early mock-up (the name'll be changed to Freebird Games rather than "game studio"):

It should look a lot more pro than the current one I made back then, heheh. I'm digging its pose.

I like it! The feet look a bit weird though.

Hm, perhaps adding another pair of toes would help?

I do like the old one, but the new one looks very nice~

Yeah, I bet the new one will be great when it's done. I like the "cartoony-ness" of the bird. Though its wings remind me of a butterfly at the moment. \:

Hahah, that's exactly what I said. The wing got changed a bit; here's a more updated WIP:

Wow, that looks cool! It feels a lot more professional than the current one, though the current one still has the nostalgic feel to it, haha. :)

Nice, except I'm a little iffy at the eye, it doesn't look friendly.

though the current one still has the nostalgic feel to it, haha. :)
Maybe Reives could add a small easter egg in a project where there is a Freebird pub with the sign post designed and lit the same way as the first logo (minus the F-bird, probably).

I like this! Definitely pro-looking.
Though I have to agree that the eyes look a bit scary, lol.

Yeah, the new one looks more like a Butterfree than a Pidgey. :p

I love the sleek curvature of the wings, but I think if your cousin added a little ridging just to imply feathers, the butterfly effect would diminish. (I said Buttefly Effect in a sentence! XD)

The beak got coloured and feet added; I think this helps with the butterfly thing as well:

(I like the old one...)

The last version looks nice, but I think he still looks a bit angry. Maybe the round eye would do the trick? o.O

Eeeh, no! I was iffy on it, but the last one you posted up is a definite no. I think it's just the color, though. It would make sense to have the legs and the word brown (like in the second one) cuz that's the color palette you've got right now, but that orange just looks way too sharp.

I do like the old one, and I'm used to it so I'm biased, but the new one does look more professional. I'm not sure if that's completely a good thing, though. It's lost some of the fun and exoticness that was in the old one. These games are fun and exotic, this logo is just kind of a bit... too professional, I think.

"Too professional"? That's one of the most mixed statements I've ever heard! XD

I think what's throwing them off is that the brightness of the colors and the roundness of the font give off an appearance that would be aimed for a slightly younger demographic. I personally think that adding black contours or making "Freebird Games" an edgier, more elegant font would take some of that away.

There's no fighting the nostalgia for the old members (points at Vasha) so it can't win on all fronts, but I think it's getting better and better with each iteration.

For everyone else, cover the words with your hand and see if the bird is the problem or if it's the combination of the bird and the wording.

EDIT: Reives beat me. I think this looks even better! I'm partial to changing the font still, but I really can't argue with this. I think it's nice.

EDIT_2:Also, I like the eyes. I don't think they look evil. I think they have a "nature" look that's more interesting than a circle.

Ooh, I like that one better. I like the lighter color (that's part of what I was trying to say before, Merlan is just better than I could ever hope to be :P ), and I think I really missed the swoosh. I'm glad it's back.

I really like the latest version of the new logo. It's good the way it is. =D

The latest is the best!

Oh, and send our regards to your cousin! He's marvelous!

EDIT: You should make it so that the bird flies into the screen in the next game! That'd be AWESOME!

I'm reaaaaly going to miss our current awesome logo. But I agree, this looks a lot better. I personally like the earlier drafts where the bird was all one color, but I've always been a fan of mono-chromatic icons for logos. I think the bird looks a bit evil/angry. Other than that, I think the new logo's pretty awesome!

And lol at "too professional." I know what you mean (you were aiming for "it feels too corporate", but it's funny to see it written that way.)

I like the one without the bird feet better. The bird feet remind me of Donald Duck just the slightest. Otherwise, it's epic.  :fezesarecool:

Hm, I think the eye's less aggressive with the shadow thing to round it up. Newestest:

The eye may be less aggressive, but the whole picture is much more aggressive! I'm personally in favor of this.

Yeah, that's better. Don't want it too dark.

Also, when's the site being updated?

I think you should replaced the darkness/black outline with some other color. Maybe white or grey?

Hm... something feels a bit off. At first I thought it may be the top line making it feel too cramped, but I just edited it out and that wasn't it. I'm not sure...

Personally, I like the prior version (http://www.freebirdgames.com/images/logo17_transparent.png (http://www.freebirdgames.com/images/logo17_transparent.png)) better, since I think the hard black drop shadow doesn't really fit into the "soft atmosphere" of the picture. Otherwise, I like drop shadows so what I would try is to just lower the shadow's transparency :)

I personally think that the drop shadows are taking too much attention from the entire logo. Try making them subtler, perhaps?

Well, I agree more with what Askalon said. It's better compared to the most recent one.

ahh, Reives kun! A new logo?
Well I say why not? Although your old one isn't bad either.
Your new one looks neat though - I like the 'pose', yes and more important i think the font and composition are an improvement.
I would not use 2 colors on the bird though, at least not like this... imo it makes it look less serious..
