Title: "Book" loosely based on TML
Post by: Yukabacera on April 02, 2010, 12:08:25 PM
Hey all, I'm new. On to the topic:

I'm a "published" "writer". Maybe some of you even read some of my works such as Quantum Mechanics Adapted to the Meanest of Intellects, Business Trips Tips, and many more. Today, I was extremely bored and decided to write a new "book". It was written kind of like a diary, and the main character was a woman trapped in the TML house. It's really cheesy, but my "publisher" told me that it's scary, so I thought maybe someone here will like it too. It's got loose ends all over the place, and there's a time-related problem in the ending. But still.

Bioshock reference at the end.

Edit by THA EDITOR:
Seeing that lots of people seem to compare TML to The Yellow Wallpaper, I decided to read the summary on Wikipedia. I was horrified to see that the concept is almost the same as my "book". Please note that this was not intentional, and that I never read The Yellow Wallpaper before.

okay, so i stared reading this... at 12:30 at night... and yeah, it does kinda creep me out. at first it was just a bit corny, but now i'm starting to hear weird whining sounds (i think it might be my fan?) and it just totally creeped me out... twice

Well I said it was cheesy, no? And I'm glad to hear I possessed another soul creeped out someone with this "book". I'm not really good at writing horror, I'm more of a comedy person. And that displeases me. I hope this thing isn't like that one cursed book in some movie/book/game whatever it was. Oh and, if anyone's wondering why is she "talking" to the diary at the end, she imagines it's one of the people she knows, like her brother, her friends etc.

Bottom Line: Don't read this thing at night.

I DIDN'T TAKE YOUR ADVICE AND READ IT AGAIN AT NIGHT

...Though it wasn't as scary... even though my calender was making scratching noises the entire time

Wow, this thing is cursed! Now I can infect everyone and their mother! Just like that videotape from The Ring! I still don't understand what that elusive ring was.

Ok... I don't quite understand the whole thing. ???

Spoiler: show
So the house is cursed or something, and she is trapped in the house for eternity, and nobody can find her or the house. And she doesn't seem to need anything to eat. Then what?

Curse you, reality! Why is there always one person who has to make sense?

You're supposed not to understand it. I'm going to use the famous excuse here: it's open-ended. Anyway, what I had in mind was that the house she entered was some sort of portal to another dimension. She slept inside the house, which, um, teleported her to the other dimension, which happens to consist of only the house. There is no way to return to the real world, so all of the people who enter the house are doomed. She slowly descends into madness (there is no fire, no "things", her brother isn't there, she's imagining everything). She scratches in one final entry into the diary, and... you decide.

Oh and, who needs eating?

it's a little known fact that when you are transported to another dimension, you no longer need to eat.

it's like this:

superman coming to earth:gaining super powers::going to another dimension:not needing to eat.

and there's your inter-dimensional science lesson for today :P

Hmm... But it didn't really scare me like TML did, no offense. XD As in, it isn't metaphoric and it isn't really mysterious - girl enters house, experiences strange phenomena, she is doomed. TML is really creepily confusing, because you don't really know what even the main character is.

Hello, fellow writer! Just dropping by to give some feedback

This was entertaining enough, although air quotes aren't enough to make me call it a book. It's not written like a diary, either---it is one. Apparently you need to figure out exactly what you are, too. You're published or you aren't. Pick one. And stop abusing those poor ellipses!

By the way (highlight to read), the "ring" seen in the videotape is created when Sadako's mother covers the well. Last thing she ever sees.

Welcome to Freebird.

Thanks for the feedback, and for explaining what the elusive ring was. Anyway, I put published in quotes to show that I'm not a real writer. That means you won't find my books, if you can call them that, on someone's bookshelf or in a store or a library, but you might find them in someone's "My Documents" folder. My intention was to write it exactly like a real diary. Think of Poe's "MS. Found in a Bottle", for example. There is no "He picked up the pen", for example, there's only "I picked up the pen".

Thanks for welcoming me. Oh and, I have no idea what ellipses you're talking about. I do.

okay, what's the difference between 'written like a diary' and 'it is one.' wouldn't 'it is one' mean that it's someone's actual, non-fiction diary, and 'written like one' mean that it's fiction like this? :salbrow:

While I'd like to believe this thing was found in a burned out house or something, this diary is pure fiction.
