Title: RTP-friendly graphics
Post by: Lunarea on October 27, 2009, 11:50:08 PM
Edits and re-sprites based on RTP. Most of them are heavy edits.

Spoiler: Outer Town • show

Houses:

This is an alternate church tileset I worked on back when Interim was RTP-based. Here's my example of a mapped church (which you're welcome to use as well, by the way):
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FAltChurch-Ex.png&hash=7c9c50134d060ea0b0b8491510689c2b)

Portraits:

(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FHutch.png&hash=81f12c0b022485571ea2940582c8ec48)

Starting out with some vanities. The first two are just regular vanities you'd find in a home. The last two are actor vanities that you'd find behind the scenes of a theater. I'm not sure if anyone's doing a play in their game, but it was one of my favorite moments of FF6. So, it'd be neat if someone ran with that idea in their game as well.
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FVanity.png&hash=fb6f8d199112d275332ff9aae302a708)
Next, we have a fortune teller booth. The version on the left comes with the fortune teller already there. Or you can use your own!
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FFortunes.png&hash=a0c246b58d9493b5873611bc6c473524)
I originally made the statues specifically for the fortune teller booth, but I thought people would use them "as is", so here's just the statues:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStatues.png&hash=0fc64c70a4ab2cc3d7d1674ba5284550)
Last, but not least, here's a Christmas set to give a little bit of that festive spirit to the NPC homes. Complete with two types of trees, mistletoe and presents:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FX-Mas.png&hash=1962ab70e586a11b444b8f0365e238f4)
I think these would be neat in a castle:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FWindows.png&hash=6e6750cc481a0a336d683974e6c1b64b)
Balcony:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FBalcony.png&hash=163f1135e23e5b655acb0b25aa30d371)
Another set of windows:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FWindows2.png&hash=997d2f5f9a511a03bbfcfc9d43036217)
A double-occupancy bed, with or without canopy:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FBeds.png&hash=bc0c938905eb120e3b99d3da2143eb3c)
A female version of the stone bust:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FStatuette.png&hash=6e842fb7297399468b13cefbc68b5f63)

Spoiler: Dungeon/Wilderness • show

Smaller version of the Dark Space lamp. Also, a "glowing" green version (with the "glow" color in the corner so one can make other glows):
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FSmallLamp.png&hash=6076764ed8e7b9b8e177d4609800b540) and (https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FSmallLamp2.png&hash=4aa26200a4e4e0ba09d82035f9947da8)
Floating rock island. Just 'cause they're cool:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FFloating-Rock.png&hash=c0b90c4f158deb70d31f9842c29af9fb)
A modified swamp tree and a Salvador Dali-inspired clock tree:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FSwampTree.png&hash=7e7f6de7a18e2493cd013d039fd0917d)
First of all, here's an alternate torch - using small crystals. The torches in the water bowl could potentially be used for fountains too.
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FCrystals.png&hash=88f89bf2289f78d8633e7fb9e22471aa)
Next we have a small edit of a rock to match the tileset colors and adding windows to the RTP cliff:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FFortress.png&hash=7386001a8eb13d80e9c92fffafdfa111)
Here are some flags positioned to be on a curving surface in a variety of color.
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FFlags.png&hash=316d5adf15a1ec3e21ce0d903f40fbcb)
Finally, here's a quick example of how to possibly use the tiles. The glow around the crystals was added with an event. The add-on doesn't have a glow.
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FExample.png&hash=404d43b3afb7d9f5ae34aa33af994f8f)

Cave curves for the fire cave:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FCave-crv2.png&hash=169cec3e04d6dfa67a3a3819056ecb03)
Recolored the fire cave to earthy tones:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FCave-Rec.png&hash=9fbc1be3b81c2ebc86ad1548b3821fd2)
Cave curves for recolored version:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FCave-crv3.png&hash=6c8b0cc52f1ed335df9028dd07963c5a)
Some variety for the palm trees:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FPalmtrees.png&hash=ae2416095919ef83ea091139ab6270d2)
and a recolored trunk:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FPalmtrees2.png&hash=971fd2dea40e3edb409755cdbdb5f2e4)

Spoiler: Other/Requests • show

Volrath (MoTW) requested an RTP barbecue, so here it is!
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FBBQs.png&hash=b1e663da9b747256145ef21f390efc57)
And here's an animated character set of meat/fish cooking on the barbecue:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FBBQ.png&hash=8b03f70f34cb8fe665a55ad3d6b428c7)
Also, Silne asked for a medical curtain, so here's the quick-n-easy version of a modern one. If set up correctly, it will tile to encompass any width and height:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FMed-cur.png&hash=7ccc2cd039b320bb95666b308001b470)
For now, here's another semi-request. A member on another forum requested a cradle and I thought it would be a good idea to make one. So, here goes:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FBaby.png&hash=04b74c0253887e9166fc8e4d10f08fbc)

Ooh, these are really nifty Luna! I especially like the last house - its colours blend very nicely. The paintings are really handy - now that you posted that I can imagine that it'd be a very effective (and efficient) way to add unique touches to some NPC homes by giving it their own portraits on the wall, and see that person walking around in the same house. I think the characters in the portraits could be desaturated a little bit (or tinted) to make them pop a bit less than the actual character sprites, though.

Thanks, Reives! Maybe they'll be of some use :)

Also, edited to add a slightly desaturated version of the paintings.

Ah nice, I think the edit did help some. c: Where have ya been by the way? Haven't seen ya around (here or Spongen) for quite a while.

I spent the last 4 weeks at my mom's house in Canada. It was a nice little vacation, but I had very limited internet access. I am back home now, though! And I should be around a ton more starting next week

@Raxus: Thanks! I know Strawberry_Yuh had a different website at one point, but I can no longer find it.  :'(

@Reives: They saw Gabriel right after he was born, but he's grown up a lot since then  :D.

Very nice recolors/frankens. They are a good addition to the RTP, especially the portraits and the third house. Thanks for posting.

Here are some more RTP items for those of you that are looking for some variety. This time, it's just characters carrying things:

The characters are by Sith Jester, Mack and (now I can't remember who made the second sprite ).

Anyway ... enjoy! I hope they're of some use to someone

I really like those houses, especially the last one, although they're too dark for my taste. The portraits look fantastic, I really like the idea, gives a touch of originality to a game. ;)

And last but not least I really adore the RTP items, they look so cute! May I ask where you got the sprite with the blue gown? I like that one. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing more of those good looking add-ons!

The 2nd and 4th characters are my favourite - they have this pristine feel; it probably has to do with the palette. o:

Thanks! I'm always happy when I inspire someone, or get inspired by someone. And here's another update!

Starting out with some vanities. The first two are just regular vanities you'd find in a home. The last two are actor vanities that you'd find behind the scenes of a theater. I'm not sure if anyone's doing a play in their game, but it was one of my favorite moments of FF6. So, it'd be neat if someone ran with that idea in their game as well.
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FVanity.png&hash=fb6f8d199112d275332ff9aae302a708)

Next, we have a fortune teller booth. The version on the left comes with the fortune teller already there. Or you can use your own!

(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FFortunes.png&hash=a0c246b58d9493b5873611bc6c473524)

I originally made the statues specifically for the fortune teller booth, but I thought people would use them "as is", so here's just the statues:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStatues.png&hash=0fc64c70a4ab2cc3d7d1674ba5284550)

Last, but not least, here's a Christmas set to give a little bit of that festive spirit to the NPC homes. Complete with two types of trees, mistletoe and presents:

(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FX-Mas.png&hash=1962ab70e586a11b444b8f0365e238f4)

Title: Re: RTP-friendly graphics
Post by: Wabbit on December 14, 2009, 08:30:49 AM
Those vanities are so KAWAII !!! I'm surely going to use them.  ^^

The fortuneteller booth and statutes look so neat, I'm definitely using them if I come across a part of my game that needs such a thing to lighten the mood. ^^

The Christmas trees are such an original idea, I never expected to see something similar to it. It's a shame I won't be able to use them in my current project though, because trees don't grow underwater. Oh well, I'll be using them in my next game then. xD

You're amazing Lunarea, keep up the great work! ;D

Smaller version of the Dark Space lamp. Also, a "glowing" green version (with the "glow" color in the corner so one can make other glows):

Floating rock island. Just 'cause they're cool:

A modified swamp tree and a Salvador Dali-inspired clock tree:

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback and I'm glad they'll be of use somewhere  :seraiblush:

This is likely going to be the last entry of the year, as the holidays are a really busy time for me. It's not a very big update, but it's a few little basics that can spruce up a dungeon.

First of all, here's an alternate torch - using small crystals. The torches in the water bowl could potentially be used for fountains too.
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FCrystals.png&hash=88f89bf2289f78d8633e7fb9e22471aa)

Next we have a small edit of a rock to match the tileset colors and adding windows to the RTP cliff:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FFortress.png&hash=7386001a8eb13d80e9c92fffafdfa111)

Here are some flags positioned to be on a curving surface in a variety of color.
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FFlags.png&hash=316d5adf15a1ec3e21ce0d903f40fbcb)

Finally, here's a quick example of how to possibly use the tiles. The glow around the crystals was added with an event. The add-on doesn't have a glow.
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FExample.png&hash=404d43b3afb7d9f5ae34aa33af994f8f)

All of your edits are great. Maybe I will implement a theatre in a game once. :) The opera stuff in Final Fantasy VI was wonderful, the best part of the game, in my opinion.

The clock tree is scary.  :o And the floating rockislands are awesome. :)
I also love thos crystals in all ways you edited them. :~

I better save your stuff on my hard drive before it gets deleted by the picture hoster in two years ^^

Thanks a lot for all your inspiring and useful edits/addons.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I keep working on more things to add variety.

Planted flowers:

I'm particularly proud of the first two windows in the second row. :)
Title: Re: RTP-friendly graphics
Post by: Lunarea on January 06, 2010, 01:47:44 AM
It's an illusion. They're straight in the middle, but because the grass is covering the ends of the roots, it might appear a little off-center.  ;)

I'll probably venture into modern stuff eventually. Funny thing about inspiration and creativity is that it comes when it comes. I'm sure I'll think of some way to use the RTP that's a bit more modern in nature.

Title: Re: RTP-friendly graphics

The windows are great! I don't know what else I can say: it seems that all I say here is "wow, amazing, etc.", but that's really the impression that I have!

If you keep this up, half the world will be crediting you for graphics in their games. (Not that that would be a bad thing!)

The windows are great for sure. They look beautiful and are far more complex than the standard stuff. I like especially the ones in the second row.

And those trees and flowers are lovely, it's always great to have a bit of variety.

Thanks again for posting this great stuff! :)
Title: Re: RTP-friendly graphics
Post by: Legacyblade on January 07, 2010, 02:50:51 PM
Gotta love those windows. I'm thinking of using them in my own game. Though a couple things I'd like to see...

1. a version of the last one with an opening door (enough frames to animate it opening.)
2. and inbetween frame for the curtain (so I can animate the curtain opening)

But they're great even without those. I really appreciate the work you put into these, they all look amazing!
Title: Re: RTP-friendly graphics
Post by: Lunarea on January 07, 2010, 05:09:04 PM
I'll keep the sacrificial altar in mind when I go for the next set of edits. I've been doing some church-ey stuff, so it might fit the theme. And I'll take a look at animating the windows/door too. As soon as I get some free time, that is.  :seraisweatdrop:

Wow, i wasn't really asking you to do those, just saying it would be really awesome and helpful if you did. (thus my phrase "a quasi-request") But if you could get them done, I'd find that very helpful :) I can't wait to see what you do.

I know it's strange, but RTP top-down perspective is weird like that. If you put them on a wall along with the "wall" auto-tile, it looks like a small balcony.

The latest entry is some curvy paths for the earth cave. First one is meant to add a serpentine path without changing the height. The second one is a sort of "side entrance" or a good spot for a chest at a low level. The third is a side elevation.

Another update!

Some variety for the palm trees:
(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FPalmtrees.png&hash=ae2416095919ef83ea091139ab6270d2)
and a recolored trunk:

Someone on another forum asked for a medical curtain, so here's the quick-n-easy version of a modern one. If set up correctly, it will tile to encompass any width and height:

Those palm trees look so cute in some way, and I really like the recolors. You're doing a great job with those add-ons! ;D

The medical curtain would obviously be helpful in a futuristic game. ^^

btw if you ever run out of ideas could you make some craddles? I haven't found any so far and I'd use some of those :D just saying .. ;)

There's a large variety of palm trees. But here's an example of what I loosely based it on:
Spoiler: show

^actualy I meant that I never saw a palm with small palm groving from it's base.

I'm pretty sure I've seen it before, but if not ... Well, I'm evoking my artistic liberties and saying anything goes in a fantasy game.

Also, Volrath (MoTW) requested an RTP barbecue, so here it is!

(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FBBQs.png&hash=b1e663da9b747256145ef21f390efc57)

And here's an animated character set of meat/fish cooking on the barbecue:

On a side note, maybe you could make us some teapot/teacup variations? Maybe some cakes, eclairs, and muffins? *drools*

Anyways, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback! I'll consider doing some more food type stuff in the future.

Also, strawberry asked for some cradles, so here's some baby stuff :3

Nothing new, but I updated the first post with all the graphics in the thread - save for the character sets which are just a couple posts down on the first page. I will eventually have a .rar file for download which will include all the graphics.

It's been a while, but here's a small update:

(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FWindows-1.png&hash=6f90814ad7d1e4dc5574db873de5c2c9)
I like windows. Besides the wall color, they're the easiest way to make a home look really different. These particular ones look a little more modern to me. The second is a variant with curtains and some blue bows.

(https://freebirdgames.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi242.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff267%2Flunarea_album%2FStuff%2FBreakfast.png&hash=e50e455eef58b52af1473ff3f74661f7)
Simple kitchen nook where a person might sit to eat breakfast. It's also a little more modern in nature, but it's still using the good old RTP.

Once I'm done with my class, I'll go back to spriting and updating a little more often. Cheers!
