Title: utterly creeped out
Post by: Legacyblade on September 29, 2009, 04:01:13 PM
Last time I played this game, I just sorta rolled my eyes thinking it was dumb. But, for some odd reason, I felt like playing it again. and HOLY CRAP it was creepy. Particularly when the phone in your house starts ringing at the same time the call telling you birdy is there comes. I payed more attention to detail, noticed how areas of the map vanished, how the microscoped cells changed, and I actually picked up the phone this time (I never was able to get to it in time last time). I still am not sure what I think happened, but I'm creeped out as heck now. Good job Reives, lol.

No wonder you hated it the last time. I didn't exactly find it creepy, though. It is very deep.

For some reason, it was just very very creepy to me. I won't ever play it before sleeping lest I be afraid of the dark. And yes, now that I played it with a greater attention to detail, what was going on, and after understanding more what it was supposed to be, I really liked it, though I am still kinda creeped out even now, lol (especially with a bunch of copies of Birdy flying all over this page. Just look at the background o.o

I have a very over active imagination sometimes. I can watch horror movies without feeling very scared. But sometimes, a small thing, generally a single image, will freak me out so terribly that I go into a state of intense paranoia and am utterly terrified for no apparent reason. It takes a lot to scare me, but it's generally one small thing (or a series of very small things) that does it. I've never been scared by a horror movie, but this was freaky. I think the phone calls are a big part of it, lol. I mean I missed the phone call when the fire went out. But I walked up to it an decided to pick it up anyways. There was the dial tone for a bit, then a sound, then suddenly someone was on the other end. That freaked the crap out of me for some reason, lol. (as did stuff disappearing off the map, with the title "a plain map") Am I the only one who found this game terribly disturbing and creepy? (that's a compliment to reives, btw)

I found the haunted house creepy. But that's beside the point.

Yes, this game was indeed scary, but in a different way then people would normally expect.

I hardly found it scary or creepy. ._o But then again, I take joy in watching "scary/creepy" things, like thriller movies. So maybe I'm a little desensitized.

Horror movies aren't scary because the only thing that scares you are the "BOO!" BOO! BOO!!s but they don't keep freaking you out.

The Mirror Lied can be very, very scary psychological horror when you look at it that way. Psychological horror plays on your fear in a deeper way than actiony horror, so it really creeps you out. Overexposure to psychological horror with an unstable mind can lead to insanity. :P

I was slightly scared when I first played that around midnight. ^^
It was superb.

I think Kirroha has discovered why I get scared sometimes then, lol. Horror and thriller movies just aren't all that scary to me, but I guess that's because they're not on the Psychological level. I didn't find the haunted house in Quintessence really scary, a bit eerie and creepy, but not like "ZOMG, IT'S A SCARY GIRL!!!" I was just wondering when the battle sequence with whatever was haunting the place was going to begin :P

So aye, this just scared me on a deep psychological level. I'm better now, but I'm almost afraid of playing again, lol. (particularly after hearing that overexposure to psychological horror can drive me even more insane.)

@Lance, for some reason, it's scarier during the daylight to me. Maybe that's just because of the mood dissonance it creates though.

I find TML rather cute. <3 Maybe I am just like creepy things or what, but I didn't really find it scary or creepy. I liked the atmosphere it created and I thought it was rather mystical than anything. Thus I loved it very much. <3

I don't think it really creeped me out at all, but 'cute'? Really?

Well, maybe it's just me who thinks creepy stuff are cute. :P

Sometimes I have a problem with the whole "scared of the picture" thing, too. Sometimes, someone can just tell me something harmless like 'it is a warning...' and I will suddenly be filled with dread for no apparent reason.

Aye. Once, I'm not sure why, something creeped me out to no end. I spent the rest of the night suppressing the burning desire to scream in terror, while trying to figure out just what I was so scared of. I don't think it was the Anime I'd watched, as I'd watched Ouran Host Club :P

Heh, I couldn't sleep after reading the first manga volume of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. The manga was just plain creepy - especially the bit where Rena was watching youuuuuu....

Legacyblade isn't the only one who's scared of that game. Once you play it several more times, you pay more attention to the small things and sudden sounds like the phone ringing...((There was this one time the house phone rang at the same time as the game phone)), it really does scare the jeebies out of you.

Heheh, I even showed this to my sisters. Jusi got scared when the phones rang. And Kesh thought the game itself was demon possessed on the poart where the house catches fire.

 But all in all, Mirror Lied is a very deep, but disturbing game. It sets a good atmosphere and despite an actual storyline, I really enjoy the playing it now.

The way you can time yourself in completing the game reminds me of the Escape Series by afro ninja.  :seraisweatdrop:
Good mysteries, folks!
