Title: How did you find out about Freebird Games?
Post by: Question Mark on January 06, 2008, 03:34:15 AM
How did you find/discover/(insert synonyms here) the game?

I first found it at RMXP.org, but I didn't actually download and play it until I was surfing at RMRK. I gave it a shot because the battle system's screenshot is just so unique compared to other games(turn-based, active-battle, sideview, etc.).

EDIT: Updated the thread title to reflect current site name and better suit its range of games.

I'm only on the 3rd volume right now but I'm too lazy to even try and beat it...

I think I found it on RMXP.org. It was a long time ago, when there was only the first Chapter. I have played every release since then. It's a great game.

And ah, you were in the TLE team? Why'd ya leave?
(To be honest, I wasn't too fond of "The Lost Element", as in the person leading it with that name. I think he changed his name now to Bunny something. Never knew him in person though, it's just that back then every other one of his post was a shameless plug.)

I left TLE for a few reasons. Mainly because it was hard to get story work done. You try asking them questions on what they want, and they take forever to answer, and the answers weren't very specific. So you finally just let loose, and make up a dramatic history for the world, and they say you took too much liberty without consulting the team. Also, they thought my story had "too much cinematic drama". How can there be too much? If it's cinematic drama, it hasn't yet become a soap opera. I don't see what's wrong with creating a figure in history similar to Alexander the Great, or other powerful men throughout our history. Also, you want dramatic tension, it's what make the gamers want to keep playing, you've obviously learned this, and implement it in your storyline for Quintessence.

And for some reason, the project leader just bugged the crap out of me. I might have just been an immature prick, but he didn't seem to even really want anyone's help...he was arrogant, in an annoying way. Project leaders need to remember that it isn't our duty to help them, that we are being nice. Even if they end up paying you, we could still get a job somewhere else.

I found Quintessence at RMRK.  I am a frequent visitor there.  I then visited the website and read the fragment from Kan Gao's novel.  I thought it was brilliant.  I love reading.  Especially novels.  I am also a BIG fan of linear RPG's.  Focused on the storyline, and not on adding just every cool side-feature there is.  There's more space and time for actual development of the characters.  What was strange about this game was that, even though it had a serious focus on the storyline and the characters, the developer had still taken his time to develop other aspects of it.  Great maps, custom graphic edits, beautiful soundtrack (with the help of two other composers :)), original battle system?  I thought, "Wow!"  Who could resist?!  This game is beautifully made.  <3

I think i found it (when RMXP.org had a home page) off the recent topic's. Then downloaded the game, as it seemed like a lot of work had been put in to it.

I played Chapters 1-4, at 1 in the morning (1am) and i havn't been the same since!
(partly because i knew that i could never top it, and then i came to the conclusion that i wouldn't want to top it.)

Me?

#1 cause: I was browsing through Amaranthia. (username:Heimdall) I saw the thread of Q:TBV and scanned it. I clicked the link provided by Reives there. I, at once downloaded the game in my laptop.

#2 cause: My girlfriend kept on nagging me to download the game that I dont even know. Until I saw the game at a thread in AM.  :gothat!:

Hahah, well thank your girlfriend for me. :D
I'm actually quite surprised by the number of people coming from Amaranth - actually seems on par-ish with all the general RM communities. I think it's because most on there are players instead of busy makers themselves. (This means that future marketing in actual player communities have very high potential! :P)

Post by: Legacyblade on January 22, 2009, 03:15:32 PM
Well to get the topic back on track, I'll tell how I discovered it.

I was originally on the team that was making The Lost Element (I think that's what it was called, can't even remember x_x). I had a facemaker avatar, and I suggested we use Quintessence as the name for the lost element. (Quintessence is the 5th element, which gods are made of, in greek mythology). Anyways, they said "No, Quintessence-the blighted venom, the game you stole that avatar from, is already using that." I was perplexed by them thinking I stole the avatar from quintessence, so I was bored one day and dloaded it. My avatar looked a lot like Alden, but used a different face base, and a different pair of eyes. Anyways, I played through the game, loved all but the prologue (it was chapters 1-4, the prologue was...weird back then), and decided to come to the site to beg Reives to give me a copy of the tent tileset he was using, XD Then I thought I might as well hang out.

Post by: Reives on January 23, 2009, 09:01:14 PM
Lol I remember that, was a long time ago. And ah, I remember that project too - whatever happened to it? I heard it kept moving from engine to engine and never got anything solid done.
Title: Re: How did you know about Quintessence: TBV?
Post by: Legacyblade on February 07, 2009, 05:10:37 PM
Yah, they kept changing the story, spriting template, story, story...story, then the game engine, spriting template again. They changed it a lot. I abandoned it awhile ago, XD And yes, I still have that tent tileset, though I did get someone to make me a custom one. Not sure which I like better.
Title: Re: How did you know about Quintessence: TBV?
Post by: Reives on February 08, 2009, 03:34:37 AM
Ah yeah, I wonder what's up with them now days or if the project's still up. It's kind of a slippery slope to keep on changing designs.
And ooh, nice. Did you show me that tileset before, by the way? For some reason I vaguely remember seeing something like that from you but yet have a feeling that it's just illusion. o:

Well how did I get to know about Quintessence?

Quite a long story^^

It all started when I was searching through my home Makercommunity for a good game to play. I found a post there saying something about an englisch maker xp game. I am definately no fan of XP Games since I am more an Old school rm2k Maker ;)

I only tried it, since there where some promising screenshots^^ And I could not stop playing it xD

I think I never told you how I found out about Quintessence.
I think it was about one year ago when I looked through rmxp.org. Quintessence looked awesome and I watched the intro video at YouTube. Then I downloaded the game and startet to play it with a fried. Somewhere in the end of the first chapter, or maybe in the second chapter, we stopped playing.
I continued to watch the intro video at YouTube in irregular intervals and last year – I think it was September, according to my registration date – I startet again and played through the whole game. I registered here when I was in Chapter V, I think.

Time passes really fast.

Wow, you've only been here for a year? I thought you'd been here for a lot longer than that.

Yeah, i was pretty much really bored one day, so i looked up random non-professional games on the internet, found this, then got addicted. Woohoo!

(Mainly because RMXP kept crashing. Fixed that already, though)

I stumbled across TBV on rmxp.org a long time ago (it had to be at least a year), because I was hoping to start up a project on RMXP, and wanted to know what it could do. So, I downloaded Quintessence, which really blew my mind. Everything was so exceptional and my first thoughts were "crap...no way I can make something like this" but then my stubborn and creative side kicked in, and I grew determined to make a game that had what Quintessence has: a large fan base and a lot of support.

I may not have the know-how that y'all have here, but I'm learning a lot as I go, and that's good enough for me :p

I heard about this game in the rpgmaker community. It's always around the most popular game with the most views. Despite that, I neglected to play this game because I didn't think it looked that good from the screenshots. I decided to give it a try when I had no other games to play and I was blown away!!!!!!!
I saved the best for last in a way.

No, not really. I can't remember where the hell I found it. But when I first played it... it was... it was...  it was a magical experience, much like this emoticon:

The beautiful, professional-grade music immersed me into the game's world, with fun characters,
smart dialogue, and incredibly original storyline. I swear, Reives... if you're EVER offered a movie deal for this game, do not refuse(unless they want to buy rights. :P) because it would be amazing!

I first passed your amazing game on to one of my friends, but all he cared about was stealing stuff from your game.(That rude person him) I plan to show it to many more people I know, in hopes that they will play and enjoy as I have, and join this site!~

Still can't remember where I found this game at, though. :)

The rest is history... Or not. Thinking about it now, I'm pretty sure I saw a few videos of the game on Youtube a year back.

Boy, I don't know why I didn't pick it up earlier!... Perhaps it is due to being in RMXP, rather than VX. I never knew XP could create such deliciousness!

How did I find out about it? My sister was going "Dad, hey Dad, have you loaded the game yet?"

Me: "...What game?"

Doragon: "Quintessence." -says it like I'm supposed to already know what it is-

Me: "...What?"

Doragon: "It's a game. You should try it."

-----LATER-----

Doragon: "C'mon, you have to join this site so we can rp and stuff."

Me: "-Sigh- Fine. You said Sushi was on there, right? <D"

Doragon: "Yep."

Me: -joins-

...So that is also how I joined the site in the first place. ^^ But I've played some of the game and I have to say it's pretty addicting~ ^^

I found it from the birds being free... Free to fly. Free to be happy, cheerful, to prosper, as well as to be in hearth and home. As when life goes off the track, you can either choose to follow it or turn around. I chose to follow the birds because it seemed like there might've been some reason I was there.

Why would you play a non-platform game on the Wii?? However the Wii does solve the problem of pop in textures not rendering, by not having any making the graphics in 3D games look consistently terrible instead of occasionally bad.

But anyway, the best James Bond game is Quantum of Solace, just saying.

And you'd play a non platform game on the Wii because it has better control.

I have most of my games on pc just because most of the games cannot be ported to console. Even if they were on console i would buy them on pc first. The only things I have on ps3 is AC3, AC4 and... MW3 but to be fair I don't buy any other games from their franchise and never will because it was badly designed. So basically I only play it to be the most irritating b*****d in all the land.

I am liking the initial impression and the feeling I get of the people here ^_^

*hugs*

Pewdiepie, actually. When he did his commentary of To The Moon. I watched him play about 40 minutes of it, then I said "No, stop, I need to play this myself".

I did not have a tissue box ready for deployment, so sadly my apartment is now moisture-damaged.

Same for me, Pewds was playing To The Moon (which I really enjoyed), I went to this website to see if there were any other Freebird games, and so I started playing Quintessence. I found the forum thanks to the readme file (I thought I needed help with the horse catching part, but I figured out before I found the hint-topic)

Found a list that included To the Moon and its short description. Loved the setting. Downloaded and played the game. And that's how I got here:)

I sheepishly found out about Freebird Games through To The Moon. A lot of people seem to have discovered it by PewDiePie or Cry, but I didn't even know they existed till this year.  XD

I found out about To The Moon before they had it on Steam. PC Powerplay did a reveiw about it a couple of years back, when I saw the reveiw I initionaly thought it was timed (Because it's about a dying man) so I was hesitent to play it. I hate timed games. Eventruly I bought it off the website and played it, I was very relieved it wasn't timed as well.  :seraisweat:

After I played it I purchesed the soundtrack. After a little while I looked into the website, but it took me about a year to play any of the games and another year to play Quintessence.

Guess I'm on the bandwagon on this one  :reivsweat:

I came across To the Moon from a LP from Pewdiepie. Fortunately he was only halfway through it at the time and since it got my attention, I went over to steam, checked a few reviews and got it.

And please don't brofist me, I'm not a pewdie fan.

I heard that there were no unicorns in Freebirdia, so I rushed to action!  :Evapple:
I came over the rainbow and found the small community of Freebirdia, and there were no unicorns to be seen.  :-X
So I made me residence here and now I will stay and bring unicorness to Freebirdia!  :mimihat:

I was making a trade on Steam and the guy offered me $15 worth of Steam games. There was a sale going on but it was a minor one. I panicked a little because he said he had to go soon, and I needed to pick $15 worth of games. I only had a couple dollars left and nothing else really appealed to me, so I picked the game with the highest ratings, which was To the Moon. I'd heard of it before but I never looked it up.

That thread looks dead, so let's revive it! I was looking for sad games videos on Youtube a few years ago (Yeah, I know, that's weird). I found a let's play of To the Moon by TJ Smith gaming (I think it was something like that), watched it 'till the end, fell in love with the game and decided to get it myself. But if you're talking about the website, I found it by a simple google search because I heard about Finding Paradise, and since I had an issue with TtM, I decided to ask on the forum.
