Quintessence is now available for Linux!
« on: September 08, 2015, 02:53:19 PM »
About the Linux port
This native port uses mkxp which is written by Jonas Kulla (Ancurio) and is covered under the GPL version 2.0.
This port has been prepared by me, although to be fair, %99.9 of the work is actually done by Ancurio.

This port also uses other open source software that are listed with their licenses in the "legal" folder.

Download Quintessence (Chapters 1-11) for Linux
(Please note that Quintessence is incomplete, it was planned to have three more chapters and it is currently on a hiatus).

Save files
Save files are located in the following path:
Code: [Select]
~/.local/share/freebirdgames/quintessence/
You may notice that there is also an "Auto-Save Archives" folder in there. In order to use those auto-save files you should copy them from there to the quintessence folder (the same path mentioned above) and rename them to Save1.rxdata, Save2.rxdata or Save3.rxdata.

Differences with the Mac port
The only difference with the Mac port is the fact that I had to convert the midi files to ogg, since I did not have a prebuilt binary of libfluidsynth needed to play those midi music.
The ogg files sound pretty accurate because they were converted using QuickTime Synthesizer which sounds almost exactly the same as the one used by RPG Maker on Win.
If someone kindly sends me libfluidsynth both in 32 and 64-bit, I will package this port with the original midi files instead.

Enjoy!

o.o this means I could dedicate a raspberry pi as a quintessence machine. The world is good!

Well, kind of!
You would still have to build mkxp and the required libs on the Raspberry Pi yourself, because the bundled binaries and libs are for x86 and x64, not ARM.
Building for ARM has been possible for a while now:
https://github.com/Ancurio/mkxp/issues/43

When you have mkxp built for ARM, it should work with the game files I have provided for this port.

Alas, I am a linux noob and compiling stuff on linux generally doesn't work well for me. I will continue playing quintessence on my PC like a peasant :P

There might be people willing to share their prebuilt binaries for ARM :)
And I didn't know P in PC stands for Peasant XD

Even if you are nothing more than a drop in a bucket...
Every drop leaves ripples.
