Load Menu Crashing
« on: December 25, 2017, 02:24:58 PM »
Every time I try to use the load menu, it crashes the game with the following error:

---

Script: *Windows_SaveFile ***: line_28: TypeError occured.

Incompatible marshal file format (can't be read)

format version 4.8 required: 0.0 given

---

I've tried deleting my save files, as previous forum topics encouraged, to see if they're corrupted. However, every time I load the game, it just recreates both save file 1 and save file 4 (the ones that existed before). I don't know if these are the default ones or the ones that I created. Either way, deleting is not fixing my game. I still receive the same error.

Is it possible to receive help on this? Thank you.

That sounds VERY strange. I think the only way is to reinstall. If that doesn't work, I guess we'll have to leave it to Kan himself...

I've done so twice and it still gives me the same error. I should have put that in the original topic, sorry.

I've basically no skills with general computer works or RMXP, so I'm just speculating. But from the looks of it something requires a version of some software at version 4.8 and it can only find 0.0 (menaing you don't have it?).

Check with the FAQ on the Finding Paradise technical section. Seems like it could be DirectX or codec-related stuff.

This error appears to be thrown by Ruby; looks like in RMXP games it usually occurs due to a crash corrupting data.

Have you tried completely deleting both the game and your save files, and then re-installing?  If you installed through Steam, have you tried verifying the game files through Steam?

It shouldn't be recreating your save files if you deleted them...

One other thing: what operating system are you running?

I tried updating the codecs and checking DirectX (I had the latest version), as well as deleting/reinstalling and then verifying. It's still giving the same error.

I'd like to report that I managed to fix it! I rewrote over the problem save files with save files from the forum, and now the load menu works.

Oh, and I just realized why the corrupted save games came back, for future reference: Steam Cloud.  It keeps a backup of your save games, so you can move between computers or reinstall and pick up right where you left off.  In this case, though, it backed up corrupt files, and then restored them with every reinstall.

Glad you got it fixed!
