Now it hit me,
Your Neil's drawing somehow reminds me of The flying marlin...
And also connected to Wyndfal somehow...
Where are they ?

been watching Tintin lately; I saw some of it as a kid cause my dad has a couple of DVDs, but pretty much all of the 1992 animated adaptation is available on YouTube now!

It was actually a comic made by Belgian artist Hergé and was said to have helped popularize comics on a large scale in Europe.
I haven't read the comics, haha, don't have the cash money to buy the albums (collections) atm, but this adaptation apparently sticks pretty close to the original stories and is rather accurate to the art style - which I LOVE omg. It's not mind-blowing, necessarily, but it's an adventure series and really fun to watch! I recommend at least trying one or two episodes.

aaanyway, I'm saying all this cause I tried to draw Tintin today. Didn't work too well - so hard to do the style justice! - but better than some of my previous attempts at least  XD It's so deceptively simple, but actually requires more anatomical accuracy and posing intuition than you'd think...

here's what he's supposed to look like btw (camera's just a random prop, he usually doesn't have that)

I only ever heard of the movie. Never knew there was a whole series though. I never watched/read it.

I think it looks pretty good :)

Being well aware of Tintin's comics and animations has been such a given for me that now I wonder if I'm the same age as Toast's father  :o

(I don't think that's physically possible though  :P)

Yeah, Spielberg made a pretty good adaptation imo, though it is divisive for some people. You should try watching some of the series! It's mostly adventure-based, really shines in the characters and details.

Ey, it's Tintin! My current avatar is a drawing I made after watching one of his adventures. Haddock is my favourite, eventhough he's got a drinking problem.

Ah, now that I look at it, I can definitely see the style's influence! I like it, btw  classy!
Quick sketches, then one was finished -- it was for a drawing exercise.

Loving the sketches; it's indeed amazing how a seemingly simple style has so much going on behind the scenes. :o It's also kinda interesting how much we seem to judge the complexities of something by the few features that we're accustomed to focus on sociologically (i.e. facial).

I love it! *squee*

Little criticism, though: The back of the hair looks a lot like skin colour.

Thanks you guys :)

You're right; the simplification can definitely streamline emotions and make them easier to read though - especially with limited space. Say, JRPG-style sprites like the ones used in TtM take advantage of this as well with the oversized heads and eyes.

Oh yeah... I ended up using white for the highlights, and red for the shading, so I guess layered on top of the orange it ended up being that color!

For some reason I was thinking about this: Tintin wears a white polo shirt under a blue sweater, over which he sometimes puts a brown suit jacket, and then every so often even a beige trench coat. That's four layers - five if he wears an undershirt! You'd think with all the action he gets himself into, he'd be way too hot in all those clothes  :P  (granted, he does take off extra layers sometimes. but not all the time.)

Drew Haddock quickly :) A lot of the time when he talks to Tintin, if they're standing up he has to lean and look down to make eye contact  XD Tintin's so short!

Some Professor Layton stuff. I'm so bad at puzzles, but I like the series anyway  The stories are actually pretty good as well. And those cutscenes are gorgeous! I think I'm going to buy Layton's Mystery Journey once it comes out on the 3DS and not just on mobile.
