Cool, I like 'em!
It's snowing a lot right now; looks thicker than fog...

Roxie's last name is kinda punny cause she likes winter and snow  :P

Lovely atmosphere and perspective. :) Don't know why, but I always thought there was something winter-y and mint-y about her.

Thanks, Reives
You're right, there really is that quality to Roxie. I wonder what exactly about her design/personality causes that impression? Other than her name, I guess she has a blue scarf and blue eyes, but that's more like "water" or "sky" color.

Haha, maybe I can a little! Though I'm actually still getting used to it, myself
So, I usually start out with a regular sketch, which isn't really that different from my other stuff:

Then, I create a new layer underneath it and do some value shading, so I know what I generally want the art to look like.

...I suppose this is also the point at which I notice inaccuracies in the sketch, like how Eva's face is lopsided  :P Now I gotta go fix that!

XD Thanks Marlin, very helpful!

Okay, that's a little better.
Now I'm gonna start on the actual lineless part of it on a new layer. Starting with the hair that's in the back (btw, I turned off visibility on the shading for now)

It looks a bit weird at the moment, which is why I'm adding the skin color:

By the way, I'm using a textured brush on Photoshop (the "pencil" preset) to do this. It's a little more forgiving than the normal brush when it comes to shaking outlines and such.
You can sorta see where I'm going with this now; I'm starting with flat blocks of color, and once they're all done, I will add shading on top of it.
Now I'll go off and finish doing all that... be back asap, I guess!

Since I often forget the exact shape I need to fill in over the colors that are already there, I move the sketch layer over the final layer and use it as a guideline. (it's not in the image above, though)

There are no lines to help the viewer see where light and shadow are, so I try to make the shading as realistic as will match the (still anime-ish) style. The eyes and eyebrows are still missing for now:

I'm doing this all on one layer so I don't confuse myself amongst several, but it's not a requirement, and could be helpful to use multiple if it suits you!

After highlights, adjustments, eyebrows and such... there's just the eyes left. Uh oh  :P This will either turn out very well, or very terribly.

ehhhhhhhhhhh

Well, it's about as done as it can be, but there's a ton of stuff wrong with it...
1. The facial expression is pretty much gone. I always thought that games like Life is Strange had poor expressiveness because whoever rigged the models and animated them did a bad job, buuut now I realize that semi-realistic to realistic styles are really difficult to give sufficient life to  :-\
2. There's too little light contrast, and it's also in the wrong places. Though it's still a bit beyond me as to exactly where and how strong it really needs to be.
3. The eyebrows aren't symmetrical.
4. The EYES aren't symmetrical!! ugh
5. Chose the wrong colors for the lab coat.
6. ...the nose is also not symmetrical.
7. Actually, the face in general is not symmetrical.

Well, that ends my endeavor for today.
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, when I get to reflect on the fact that I am forever alone  :P

I am speechless. That was just meant to be a compliment, but I guess I should actually try it out. I can do steps #1 and #2 already, so... :P

2. There's too little light contrast, and it's also in the wrong places. Though it's still a bit beyond me as to exactly where and how strong it really needs to be.

The neck has a nice dark colour, but the face needs more dark places all over. Looking at "deep" paintings, I always notice how the artists use almost complete black and white for the strongest contrasts (in this case it should be the darkest between neck, cheek and hair, I suppose).

You are not alone just because you don't have a boy- or girlfriend. You still have friends and family! ^_^ ...and chocolate! Lots of chocolate!

If you can draw it, you don't need it irl ;) but they do taste better than they look drawn :P

Have I mentioned Ria (my persona) is crazy about cookies? :)
